Broken, Mended
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Expelliarmus!"
The jet of green light was split by the red light, causing the green light to rebound upon its caster and the other to hit his opponent. Both bodies were silhouetted in the eerie green light, and both hit the floor of the hall at the same time.
"No," My words were barely a whisper as my life ended.
I couldn't stay here, I had to get out. Only one saw my flight from the formerly beautiful Great Hall. I ran as far as my feet could carry me. I eventually collapsed, sobbing, on the granite floor of the Astronomy Tower. I eventually heard footsteps, but I couldn't bring myself to care. The footsteps stalled when they saw my broken body. Not in a literal sense, but mentally and emotionally I was broken. Warm arms wrapped around me, trying to understand my pain.
"It'll be alright, someday." He whispered into my hair.
I don't know how long we stayed like that, with him holding me and with me bearing my soul to him.
My sobs eventually subsided, and my breathing evened out. He didn't ask me if I was okay; he already knew I wasn't.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He barely spoke above a whisper, but I caught every word.
"I don't think I can."
"Do you want me to talk about what I went through tonight? It would probably make you feel worse, though."
"Sure. Misery loves company, or however how that bloody saying goes."
He cracked a brilliant smile at that, and my heart soared.
"Let's see, I snuck back into the castle, tried to catch Potter, got a friend of mine killed, followed Potter and his groupies to the Whomping Willow—"
"Hey!" I protested weakly.
He shrugged, and continued his tale. "—and watched a man that I considered my father die."
"Oh Merlin, I'm so sorry, I didn't know—"
"I know." He silenced me with a kiss.
He pulled back, and looked into my eyes, which were, once again, filling with tears.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I'll just go now..."
He made a move to get up, but I held him back, and pressed my lips to his.
"I'm not crying because you kissed me, Draco, I'm crying because I never got to tell him I loved him."
"So, am I just a rebound to you?" I would've preferred him to scream and rant at me, but not close himself off.
"No, I, it's complicated."
"What's so complicated about it?"
"I loved Harry, I will always love him, but I think I'm falling for you. I'm sorry that I just went all Cho Chang on you."
He cracked another brilliant smile at that. "It's okay Ginny, because I think I'm falling for you too."
I giggled and kissed him again. "Thanks Draco, I needed that."
"No problem. So where do we go from here?"
I knew he wasn't just talking about our developing relationship.
"Well, let's start by leaving this tower and honoring the dead."
He nodded, took my hand, and helped me up. Together, we exited the tower, hand in hand.
