He slid his aching body between the sheets, drawing up the fur throw that meant comfort to his weary mind. While bumps and bruises were part and parcel of his job, yesterday's battering had gone beyond the pale. The harsh price of justice had been paid with a pound – no, the pounding – of his flesh and the life of a fugitive who may or may not have deserved her violent end.
