Chapter 1: The Shinigami King

A series of explosions rocked the forest. Orochimaru was running away from Konoha after stealing the Forbidden Scroll. He had just blown up his pursuers with a trap of hidden wires and explosive tags. He chuckled to himself, "Kukuku...Konoha's standards have plummeted. Their chuunin are so reckless. I expected better security though. Stealing the Forbidden Scroll felt...too easy." With that thought, he stopped on a tree branch and opened the scroll, revealing that it was blank. He sneered, "Of course Sarutobi-sensei wouldn't be that careless. I underestimated him because of his old age and pathetic ideals. Oh well; I already have the Edo Tensei. That's all I need...kukuku."

Meanwhile...

"Go after him!" "Don't let that demon escape!" A mob of Konoha villagers was chasing after a blond boy with whisker marks on each cheek. This boy was Uzumaki Naruto, the Jinchuuriki of the Kyuubi no Kitsune. He had tears streaming down his face as he ran for his life.

Suddenly, someone grabbed his head from behind and smashed his face onto the floor. "We've got you now, demon. There is no where for you to run. It's time you pay for your crimes," said the Jounin who was holding Naruto. What followed was an onslaught of fire jutsu from the ninja and weapons from the villagers. Eventually, the mob tossed Naruto out of Konoha with the consent of the gate guards, thinking that he was dead.

An hour later…

Six-year-old Naruto woke up. He looked at himself and his wounds seem to have healed, though nto completely. He thought, "How come they are so cruel? I have never done anything to them! This happens all the time; I can't stand it anymore! One day, they will pay…." Suddenly, he came upon a giant crater. Curious, he walked down to the center of the crater. Suddenly, the earth beneath his feet cracked and fell apart, causing him to plummet into darkness and one again fall unconscious.

When Naruto woke up, he saw that he was surrounded by different pictures on the wall. All of them depicted swordsmen fighting each other. Some wore white, while some wore black. "They don't like like ninjas. I wonder who they are." Suddenly, a deep voice spoke, "Child. What are you doing here?"

"Who are you? Show yourself!" Naruto yelled. "Very well." As he stepped from the shadows, Naruto's eyes widened. The entity had purple skin, long white hair, red eyes, sharp teeth, and two horns. It was wearing a white cloak and had a wakizashi with a red shealth, strapped to his waist. "I am the king of all shinigami. Now then, I will ask you once more, what are you doing here?" Naruto was a bit frightened by the intimidating shinigami, so he quickly answered, "I'm sorry! The ground suddenly fell away beneath me! I don't even know where this is!" The shinigami king stared into Naruto's eyes, "It seems you aren't lying...Wait, you seem familiar. Oh, it's you. The child who I sealed the Kyuubi into."

Naruto was confused, "But I thought the Yondaime killed the Kyuubi?" "Wrong. The Kyuubi, like all Bijuus, are entities made of chakra. They can't be killed. He had no choice but to seal it away into a baby, you." Naruto was shocked, but his mind started putting things together, "It all makes sense now, why I am hated. They think I'm the fox. But I'm not, right? It's just sealed in me... "Correct."

"But why did he choose me?" "That...I can't tell you. It is for your own good; you will find out in due time. Just know that he trusted no one else to wield that great power and also, he wanted you to be seen as a hero." "I see….so tell me, who are the shinigami? And what is this place?" "Shinigami are originally souls of the dead who are sent to Soul Society, the home of the shinigami, by shinigami. There, they undergo training to become shinigami. They battle Hollows, which are souls that have ben corrupted due to a large amount of negative emotions, to protect the world. The world of the shinigamis, Soul Society, was destroyed by a man named Juhabach. He was the quincy king. A quincy is a human with spiritual powers, also known as reiatsu. Reiatsu is a bit different from chakra. Chakra is the physical manifestation of power, while reiatsu is the spiritual manifestation of power. Anyways, a substitute shinigami named Kurosaki Ichigo defeated Juhabach at the cost of his own life. However, the damage had already been done. That generation of shinigami was wiped out, along with the remaining quincies. I rebuilt Soul Society and there are new shinigami now though. This place is where I've stored the Zanpakuto that the generation of wiped out shinigami used. Zanpakuto are spirits formed from the souls of shinigami. They are manifested as swords and each has unique power. Though the shinigami died, their zanpakutos survived. However, they are just lying here until they find new masters. People can synchronize their souls to these Zanpakutos, but only if they are compatible. Zanpakutos choose their wielders, not the other way around. You are the first one who has come across this place. Since you are here, let's see if any Zanpakuto want to come with you."

"That's alot of information to take in. But I get the chance to become strong? That's amazing! Where are they?" Suddenly, the dark area lighted up and he saw numerous numbers of swords around him, hanging on walls. "Wow…." He walked around, observing each sword. He heard a voice say in his mind, "Look to your left, child. I have chosen you for your kind soul and your will to help others. You remind me of my previous master….." Naruto suddenly saw a glowing sword. He walked up to it and noticed that it had a green sheath. As he picked it up, an image of a blue dragon came to mind, but quickly disappeared. Before he can think more into it, another voice said, "Look the opposite way, boy. I can sense the darkness within your heart. You will deceive everyone and make the fools of Konoha pay. However, you seem capable of forgiveness…. Interesting…." Naruto turned around and saw another glowing sword. He walked up to it and noticed that it was a wakizashi with a purple sheath. The first sword flew to his back and a green sash appeared to hold it in place. As he picked the second sword up, an image of a white snake came to mind, but quickly disappeared. Then, he heard a third voice say, "What an interesting being…. So many different emotions. Maybe I can learn more about human emotions from you…." As Naruto looked around, he spotted a glowing sword to his right. He walked up to it and noticed that it also had a green sheath. The second sword flew to his waist and a blue belt appeared to hold it in place. As he picked the third sword up, an image of a black bat came to mind and the sheath turned gold. Then, it flew to his back and a red sash appeared to hold it in place. The two swords on his back formed an X.

Naruto asked the shinigami king, "How do I unlock my powers?" He replied, "You must go within your inner world and communicate with the Zanpakuto spirits. They will teach you how to use Shinigami techniques. Since you have a zanpakuto that belongs to an Arrancar, he or she will also teach you how to use Hollow techniques. Then, as you go through life, you will eventually discover their names and unleash their power." "What is an Arrancar?" "A Hollow that has gained Shinigami powers, due to the Hogyoku. As for how to leave, I will send you back up. Farewell."

Naruto woke up inside his apartment with his swords on him. He smirked and thought, "Time to become stronger. Once I'm strong enough, Konoha will regret what it has done to me."
