Hi! My other fanfictions are being worked on, don't worry. This was just a little thing that popped into my mind while I was watching the Daughter of Green fanmade song on YouTube. I don't own Vocaloid or the Story of Evil. I'm sorry if I get some things wrong…
Len's POV. If it's hard to tell, the parts in present tense are after Miku's death and the thing in past tense are before. Enjoy!
Green flashed in the corner of his eye and he turned around.
It seems so simple when he puts it like that. Too simple to have ended with him standing here alone, hands dripping with blood. He looks back on it bitterly, that one moment when he had to go and fall in love. Who is he now, he wonders, standing over her cold body with a knife in his hand?
She was walking with a prince, who loved her. And there he was, the pitiful servant, turning to face her as she turned to face him. The long green hair that had first caught his attention swung back behind her as she spun, but that was soon forgotten as green eyes met blue. He swore he would not forget those eyes, or that unmistakably real smile that spread across her face. A smile for him.
He looks down at her. The same eyes are still open yet lifeless, staring at nothing. He looks into them, and feels no emotion. They are not the same eyes he saw that day in town.
His eyes went wide when he first saw her, and his heartbeat quickened. He smiles a broken smile at his own stupidity. He was so naïve just those few weeks ago, a young boy falling for a girl too far away.
It was the next day that he learned he had to kill her. He remembers the pang that went through his heart, overpowered only by his undying loyalty to the princess. He traveled back to the country of Green and met the girl again, in the moonlit town that night. The same place where he stands now. He saw the fires start in the town, the princess's soldiers destroying the buildings and the lives. And there the girl from the town was, the reason for all of this, standing before him so completely innocent.
She smiled sadly at him. He wondered for a split second if she loved him too, but blocked the thought from his mind. He could not afford to think like that. He had to do what he was sent for.
He pulled the knife out, hands shaking, tears flowing freely from his eyes.
"Do it." She was calm, gaze fixed on him.
"I-I can't…"
With a sad smile, she leaned in and kissed his cheek, then placed her hands over his on the knife, holding it inches from her heart. Her voice was quiet but unafraid as she spoke.
"Thank you."
Now he stands over her, among burning houses and clouds of smoke. He doesn't care about that. He wipes the tears away, leaving streaks of her red blood on his face, and looks down at her one last time.
"I'm sorry," he murmurs, and yet he does not regret it. He lives to do what the princess wishes, and this does not change even now. He should not have fallen for this girl, so hated by his princess. He loves the princess as a sister. She is who he lives for. He will be loyal to her, even if lives have to be lost.
He turns and walks away from the burning town, wiping his knife clean. He must return to the castle and confirm her death.
It is only as he sits in the carriage that is driving him back to the castle that it occurs to him that he never even knew her name.
Thank you for reading. You can expect new chapters of my other fanfictions within a week, though I won't make promises for fear of breaking them. I'm going to try not to write faster, but to write more often, and we'll see how I do :)
