"Go away!"

The little boy into turned away from his play battle and looked at the group of kids who had circled around them, "Why does she have to go away? We're having fun."

"Idiot, we're not supposed to play with her!" A girl shouted. From the way she acted Yachiru easily ascertained she was the leader of their group.

"But Onee-san…"

Yachiru was bewildered as the children argued around her. This argument was better than Iba and Renji fighting over who had the coolest sunglasses. But she was bored.

"When can we start playing again?" She asked tugging on the boy's sleeve only to have his sister smack her hand away.

"Nee-san! Why did you do that?"

"She's trash. She's violent, rude, and not a good person to be around. She doesn't even have a Mama," the self-righteous girl explained repeating the word's of the adults around her.

"But she's a Shinigami. A vice-captain too," the boy whispered loudly.

"She's from Rukongai and she doesn't have a mama to teach her any manners. Look at her she's dirty and her hair is uncombed," the girl snarled pointing at Yachiru, "Disgusting."

"Mama?" Yachiru thought. She had heard that word before. Usually it was from happy children who were chasing after a woman or from sad ones crying in the street.

"Excuse me, what's a mama?" Yachiru asked using the voice she normally saved for requesting candy.

The question caused the girl to whirl around incredulously, "You see that she doesn't even know what a mama is!"

The boy looked puzzled. Maybe his sister was right and he shouldn't play with her. There were a few kids in Serietei that didn't have moms, but everyone knew what they were.

"You see that she's so barbaric she doesn't even know what a mama is!"

Yachiru didn't quite understand what the girl was saying, but it was the first time she'd been treated with such unkindness.

"You really don't know what a mama is?" The boy asked kindly as tears dampened his new friend's eye, "A mama is the person who cooks for you, gives you bathes, teaches you new things, kisses you when you get hurt, reads you bedtime stories, takes care of you when you're sick."

"Oh", Yachiru exclaimed excitedly. "I have a mama."

"You do?" The boy squealed happily.

"No she doesn't," The girl yelled shoving Yachiru, "She's such a liar. She doesn't have a mama. There's nobody who …"

"Yaaachiiiiiruuuuuu"

Her tirade was cut short by a voice calling out for Yachiru.

"Yaachiiiruuu!"

The girl's eyes bugged as the beautiful person stopped inches from Yachiru.

"There you are! I've been looking all over for you. What is this? You're dirty! Your hair is messed up too!" Yumichika shrieked as he whipped out a handkerchief and immediately began fixing Yachiru.

"See I told you I had a mama" Yachiru gloated as Yumichika used a low level water kidou to moisten the handkerchief.

"Mama?!?" Yumichika opened his mouth to protest. Older brother or young uncle maybe, but he wasn't old enough to be a parent and definitelty lacking female parts. Then he saw the moisture in Yachiru's eyes and the loathing in those of the other kids. It didn't take much to realize they'd been bullying her.

"Come on dear we'll be late for training," Yumichika smiled as he softened his voice and took her hand, "I'll race you.

"Your mama's pretty" the little boy called out.

"Um Umm" the other kids couldn't help mumble in agreement.
