Steve and Gabrielle get told by Frank to go out and get some supplies for the tea room after Frank ran out of milk for his coffee. Much to there disgust they go down to the supermarket. Steve who has been battling his feelings for week's even months for Gabrielle didn't mind being alone with her however Gabrielle would of rather been doing more important things than shopping.
It had been a pretty quite trip until surprisingly Gabrielle started a conversation knowing for sure that Steve would listen. "Danni & Fiona are coming over tonight" Steve smiled remembering what things used to be like when they were together replied "really, you must be looking forward to that". "Yeah, I am" she said with a cute smile on her face. What Gabby said next was the biggest shock of all. "I…I would really like you to…to come also, you know like old times". It took a while for Steve to answer but finally said "I'd like that". Gabrielle had a smile of relief on her face.
They were at the checkout and you could tell that they were really excited about tonight. Then all of a sudden a teenager comes in wielding a gun and demanding cash from the register. Scared as anything Gabrielle grabs onto Steve's arm. Then Steve, the decent man that he is tries to calm the boy down and reason with him but instead the boy becomes more agitated and shoots Steve, grabs the money and races out the door. Gabrielle is clearly in shock and tries not to cry as she tries to keep Steve clam, warm and apply pressure to his wound. Gabrielle is trying so hard to be strong for Steve and not cry but tears start to fall down her face. Nursing Steve til the ambulance arrives; Gabrielle is sitting on the floor with Steve lying in her lap, fighting back tears, then Steve tries to say something, Gabrielle tries to keep him lying still and quite but he goes ahead anyway "I need to tell you something", gazing deeply into her eyes, "Gabby, I love you!, I have always loved you and I will never stop loving you". Gabby not saying anything holds his hand tighter as they share a long awaited and passionate kiss, Gabrielle now realising just how much Steve means to her. By now the ambulance had arrived to take both of them to the All Saints Emergency where they worked.
Realising there is a trauma coming in; the E.D team are prepared, but not as prepared after realising its Steve who is hurt and to see the state that Gabby's in.
After letting go of Steve's hand so he can be treated, Frank tries to console Gabrielle's fit of tears. As Gabrielle tries to explain to Frank just what had happened, now that Steve is in surgery, she keeps thinking about why she didn't say "I Love You" back and why? Maybe it was because she was scared of getting hurt again like the last time, but the more she thought about it, the more her feelings for Steve grew all over again, just like when they were together the first time.
After calming her self down a bit and having a cup of tea, Mike came in to tell Gabrielle the good news, that Steve was going to be alright and he was out of surgery, but before he knew it Gabrielle had raced out the door and was on her way up to elevator.
Gabrielle approached Steve's room really quietly and walked in even more so because she realised he wasn't awake properly and sat on the chair next to his bed. Then holding his hand, Gabrielle said the four words she had wanted to say for long time "I love you too", with tears running down her face. With one landing on Steve's arm, without opening his eyes Steve wipes a tear from her face and smiled. With a small relief laugh, Gabrielle said "I almost lost you today and I never want to loose you or feel that way ever again". Steve replied "You'll never loose me!"
Now knowing that it's meant to be they share another passionate kiss.
