Disclaimer: I own nothing in Tortall, Tamora Pierce does.
A/N: This is a poetic drabble of what Eleni Cooper "saw" in Alanna when George first introduced them. I haven't attempted poetry of any kind since I finished school, so please be kind. Thanks!
"Give me your hand."
Alanna obeyed. The woman just touched her fingers, then pulled away as if she had been burned.
"Now what?" Alanna wanted to know.
Alanna: The First Adventure - Tamora Pierce
What Eleni Saw
White hot light with purple blazes
The Goddess' emerald green gaze
Heartbreak, grief, a father's neglect
Alone, except for servants, to raise
Wildness, stubbornness, bitterness, pain
Deception of the most cunning sort
Chopped hair, boy's clothes, never seen naked
Lips ever ready with a snappy retort
Dreadful sickness, heat, horrible pain
Revelations at the height of a fight
Friendships, love, complicated romance
Hopes, passions, disappointment in the night
Eyes of purple, seen in eyes of hazel
The same seen in eyes of sapphire
One would become the first troubled love
The other would become love's lasting desire
Death, healing, new love, new lives
Horror, redemption, security at last
Struggles to live a life free from pain
All seen so briefly, so fast
"Poor lass," There was pity in the woman's face. "The Goddess has Her hand on you. You've been given a hard path to walk." She tried to smile. "Luck to you Alanna of Trebond. You'll need it."
