There he was, bloody and bruised, but alive. He staggered forward, their eyes met in the darkness.

Relief.

Dean's eyes searched over his brother's form, looking for lasting damage. He looked battered, it would take a while to recover this time. But eventually he would mend. Then Dean caught a glimpse of someone behind Sam. Before he could react it was already too late. The man lunged forward and stabbed his brother in the back. He plunged the dagger deeper and deeper. Meer seconds passed, the scene playing out in slow motion. The look in the mans eyes: greed, power, feat. Sam's face cringed in sheer pain.

Snapping back to the moment, Dean screamed out, running forward.

"Sam!"

Sam's tired body fell to the ground, Dean reached forward and grabbed his brother. Both fell to the dirt. Dean pulls Sam close. His hand's searched for the stab wound in his brother's back. He finds the spot: hot, wet: blood stains his fingers. Pulling back, he tries to read the face of the man dying in front of him. The eyes that once glowed with admiration and hope, were dark, only a glimmer of what once shone there.

"Sammy!! You fight this, you hear me. Don't you dare leave me to fight this war on my own"

Dean lifted his brother's head up to look at him more clearly. He was fading fast, but he couldn't give up hope. It was all he had left. He had lost so much, sacrificed everything. He couldn't lose the only thing he had left. He couldn't lose Sam. For just a second Sam looked back into his eyes, really looked. Then his eye lids close, his perfect chestnut eyes lost to the darkness.

"Sam? Sam?"

Dean's voice broke, a single tear fell onto Sam's cheek.

"Please?!!"

He pleaded, begged for salvation. His hands in fists around his brother's shirt. He knew it was too late. He had lost the last thing he was living for. Sam's head fell forward, all life that once lived in the body was now gone. The weight of the dead body became too much for Dean as he felt all his strength seep away from him. It slumped down in the dirt, laying beside him. Sam's face no longer pained, but also no longer alive. Dean felt what little control he had disappear. The tears were flowing now, unable to stop himself. He grabbed the body, all he had of his brother. Screaming.

"Sammy!!!! Sammy!!!"

From a distance: two brothers, their love for each other was unconditional and everlasting. One lost to this world and one that could not bare to be alone in it….
