Neverland - where kids stay kids forever. It was the best place in the world, to her. That could be because it's all she'd ever known. Maybe it was because he was there. Even after that girl and his boys intruded, even after the girl's daughter arrived, even after that boy with the big key came and went - he was still there. And that's what she wanted.
She tried to keep him with her for as long as possible. The Lost Boys say it, but they said nothing. They didn't want him to go, either. She could see it, though, in Peter's eyes. The call of other worlds - where kids always grew up - were drawing him. And, even though he was in Neverland . . .
Her boy was growing up.
This is why she was trying so hard. He couldn't leave, he just couldn't! Peter was her boy, her life, her reason. She wasn't going to let him go without a fight. She flitted angrily around his head at all times. It was like she never stopped moving. She flew with him, wherever he went. Everything she did, everything she thought, everything! All of it was for him. But after a while, she started to see. Everything wasn't enough for the boy. He needed more than she could give him. And slowly, ever so slowly, she realized…
Her Peter was losing faith. (Faith, trust…and pixie dust!)
He left Neverland eventually. Left her with her (their, their!) Lost Boys. He never came back. No amount of pixie dust could help her to heal that wound. Without her boy, she began to fade…until she was gone forever.
(If kids stop believing in fairies, Tink's light'll go out!)
Just like her Peter.
