Dedicated to The Original Horcrux. I hope you feel better and that you like it, since I've never written or read Martha/Mickey. You're an amazing person and writer. :D

She always felt safer with him around.
Being with the Doctor was a whirlwind adventure she couldn't get enough of—but let's face it, at the end of the day she would gladly trade running in escape from monsters for a good cuppa.
There was a time in everyone's life when they had to stop and think about where they were going. Travelling in the TARDIS, she never knew where she'd end up next. The dangerous excitement was thrilling, yes, but always at the back of her head was the niggling wish that she could just have some rest. After months of travels, she was getting tired. There was no end in sight.
The Doctor didn't know what it was like; he couldn't know. He never aged. He never settled down. She very much doubted if he had ever owned a house, or had a family.
He couldn't see how much it hurt her to be away from them. Never let him see the damage. And never, ever let him see you age. He doesn't like endings. A woman had come up to her and said that once, just as she was waiting in a shop queue to buy some milk. Martha thought she must have been mad, with her trench coat and wild curly hair, but her words had made an impression on the girl.
Now that she thought about it, those words suited the Doctor perfectly.
When the Master had taken over the Earth, she had realised that the Doctor wasn't all she wanted him to be. Since he couldn't even protect his favourite planet, she had taken matters into her own hands.
She had finally seen him for who he really was. She was ready to leave him and his adventures forever and settle down to the quiet life, full of tea and putting her feet up.
But then, she had met him. He seemed like the answer to all her problems. He could take her on exciting journeys where they would have a lot of fun running around and shooting at aliens, but he could also take her home and pamper her. After months of spending all their time together, his home had become her home too.
Mickey seemed like he was too good to be true. That's why Martha never took their relationship for granted. She knew about the dangers of getting complacent.
Thankfully, her worries were never realised.
