Christmas Shopping
I cling to my daughters hand
slightly tighter than I normally would
as someone bumps into my shoulder,
their own arms overflowing with
shopping bags.
The mall we walk in resembles
a jungle, parents arguing for the
last toy on the shelf. I simply shake
my head at their antics.
I watch tired, exhausted moms as
they drag their children away
from the isles of tempting toys,
hoping to pacify them with a sugary
red and white candycane pulled
from a coat pocket.
