Title: Don't get so smart

AN: Set pre-movie, or to be more precise, right before he finds Toothless. Also, the title is a reference to a saying my grandma often tells me.

Hiccup knew he was different; but it's not like he wanted to be.

He was smart. He was inventive, he could understand things that even Gober had trouble with.

It wasn't something he'd recommend.

Seriously: bronze over brains, any day.

It just wasn't right. Something wasn't right... with him... but Hiccup always pushed those thoughts behind – he already knew that wouldn't lead anywhere.

No. He had to show them that he was like them, that he could be a dragon killer, that he did belong. He had to.

And then they'd see. Then he'd prove to them – that he was okay. That there wasn't anything wrong with him. He was just a little slower than them.
