There were never such devoted sisters
As the only two women serving on the senior staff of Deep Space Nine, a certain bond was to be expected betwen Major Kira Nerys and Lieutenant Jadzia Dax. But even they couldn't have foreseen the depth of friendship that was to grow between them.
It is said that true friends are recognized, not made. Jadzia followed this maxim from the beginning, immediately recognizing what a friend Kira would eventually be to her. However, the Bajoran woman did not share her conviction. Dax knew she would come around, given time. Her pursuit of Kira's friendship couldn't be called stalking by any stretch of the imagination, but she was persistent and it paid off.
At first Kira was determined not to like Dax. She was Starfleet, after all. But Dax was just one of those people it was impossible not to like. Jadzia kept inviting her to things, asking her to be with her. Kira found it hard and finally impossible to say no to her. They ate together, worked together, talked together, played together.
As their friendship deepened, the two shared everything with each other. And eventually, they came to the realization that they would do anything for each other. In that moment, in the midst of yet another failing tongo lesson for the major, they looked up and each saw in the other's eyes what she herself felt so deeply.
In their hearts, they were sisters.
