Maka looked over to her partner, whose face was scrunched in a frown as he grumbled into his cup ramen. She'd done it again. She was so preoccupied with her school work for the past two days that she'd forgotten to cook dinner. It made her feel especially guilty to know that Soul had really been doing his part around their apartment lately. He cleaned the entire bathroom on his own even after Maka had insisted she would take care of it. He even put more effort into cooking. She'd been pleasantly surprised the other day to come home from the library to find a hot meal waiting for her on the table, meat, starch, vegetables, and everything. He was clearly being the best roommate ever this week and she felt like literal trash for messing up her only opportunity to redeem herself.

Maka really hoped he wasn't too mad at her. After all, she hadn't meant to forget. It was that damn Stein and his insane biology lab that had absolutely driven her up the wall these past two days. How could that screw-head possibly expect his students to complete such a long and complicated writeup in just two nights?

Soul continued loudly slurping his noodles as Maka lowered her eyes to her own, stabbing into the styrofoam cup with her wooden chopsticks. Biting her lip, she lifted her eyes, "Are you mad?" she asked timidly.

Her partner's eyes met her own. "What do you mean?"

She shifted her gaze, twirling the chopsticks in the hot broth, "You know, about dinner."

"Not really," he replied flatly.

Maka bit her lip again. He was totally mad and it was all because of her screw up. How could she be such a horrible roommate? They made a system so that this wouldn't happen. Wasn't she the one who always followed the rules, especially ones she made?

"You know," Soul started, interrupting her thoughts, "its not that big a deal, so just eat."

Maka looked up and followed where the boy's chopstick pointed to, realizing that she'd stabbed through the majority of her leftover noodles through her twidling. She sighed, "Yeah, but you really did a lot this week and I feel really bad for not even being able to cook dinner tonight."

"I only did all that because I knew you were really busy this week."

"Wha-?" Maka blinked in surprise, meeting Soul's eyes.

"Yeah I heard about that crazy lab or whatever from Ox," Soul shrugged, "Knowing that screw-bastard, he probably gave you one hell of an assignment."

Maka sat stunned. He'd done all that because he knew she was busy? Soul Eater Evans, the laziest guy on the planet? The thought made a warm smile spread across her face.

"You can make it up to me by throwing this out, though," he grinned, pushing the now-empty styrofoam cup towards her.

With a short laugh, Maka got up and snatched the cup up. Lowering herself to his level, she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. "Thanks, Soul," she murmured, kissing him lightly on the cheek.

"Anytime."
