A/N - My first Kingdom Hearts story. I have been wanting to start one for some time now. The title is German for "Night of Broken Glass or Crystal Night" which I have used as a metaphor for "broken memories, broken promises". This snippet is the prologue to a story that I'm currently working on. It will become a Riku/Sora yaoi. This follows in my deep descriptive writing style, not really story-telling. Usually it's confusing, leaving you to figure out what exactly is going on. I like it like that. It could be plenty of different things; you interpret how you will. ^_-
Disclaimer - I don't own Kingdom Hearts. If I did, you would know for there would be some tweaking in the script of Riku and Sora at the end of KHII...
Warnings - the overuse of ellipses.
Kristallnacht
broken memories, broken promises
Black. Everywhere. Silence. Nothing.
Nothing.
Pitch black. No light. Where is that sliver of silver dagger always managing to find a way through the black like water against a century old dam? Waiting, just waiting for that one minute crack, a flaw, an escape... Waiting...
Waiting...
W a i t i n g...
It's so quiet, yet so loud. Screaming silence that pierces your ear, dissolving your thoughts. Am I thinking? But, of what exactly? Is there an answer? Questions answer questions... going in circles... head spinning...
Spinning... spinning...
Lay there, barely conscious, engulfed in darkness. Mind reeling in controlled chaos, muscles fatigued, will strained, heart lost. Lost... or maybe... Maybe I just need to find it. But why? What's left? Nothing. It betrayed me... us, so do I really need it... want it? Why can't I answer that...?
"Sora... I-I'm so sorry..."
Because it doesn't matter, it's not important... nothing is. At least not anymore. But wait, that voice. Is that...? He... I, no, it's all a mirage, a faux implant of hope. I'm hearing things. But... it did sound like... yes.
"...Riku? Just give me a little more time..."
Time.
Time is all I need.
We'll go together.
I promise... t o g e t h e r...
"Sora? I-"
Everything seems... light. It feels like I'm falling deeper... deeper... deeper... into...
Light?
A faint light, yet still I can... feel him. So close. Almost in my reach... I can feel it.
"Riku, that glass... broken... please... wait a little longer..."
A/N - I wanted it to have that sort of 'flowing unsure thoughts' as in the beginning and end credits of the game, and I had a lot of fun with the repetitions. Please review and tell me how you like or don't like this story. And I must tell you this story does end here, however, it will continue in a sequel; it's so much better that way. I'm sticking with my original plan.
