Disclaimer: Marvel owns all characters included in this story! The song is also not mine, but Jason Aldean's!
I've been thinkin' bout you all day baby
Waitin' on that sun to go down
Loki looked down at the empty spot on the grass beside him. He sighed; he had gotten himself all dressed up and even arrived on punctual time, yet no one had shown up, even after an hour and a half of waiting.
Whatcha say I pick you up after work
Slide over, we'll slip out to the outskirts of town
The river in front of Loki flowed and the cattails swayed in the cooling breeze. He put his head down almost between his legs, trying to stifle the tears he felt welling up. He ran his hand through his hair that he let naturally fall today.
Got a blanket and a fifth of comfort
A little something to knock off the edge
Loki stood up and started folding the picnic blanket.
When he heard the familiar shutdown of machine, his heart stopped and he quickly wiped the tear away from his cheek. He stood back up from crouching and turned to face Tony Stark. His Iron Man suit was finishing up detaching itself from him; he had a bottle of his favorite whiskey in one hand and a green fleece blanket.
It's supposed to get a little cool tonight
Looks like I'm gonna have to hold you tight…
The breeze flew past again, making Loki shiver. Tony walked over to him and rubbed Loki's shoulder. A shot of warmth flew through Loki's body. Tony's eyes met Loki's…
Bout a mile off old mill road
In that spot nobody knows
Park the truck and we take off running
Hurry up, girl I hear it coming
The sound of a train horn in the distance broke their gazes. Tony looked down at the picnic blanket in Loki's crossed arms. Loki spread it out again how it was and sat back down.
Got a moon and a billion stars
Sound of steel and old box cars
The thought of you is driving me insane
Come on baby lets go listen to the night train
Tony pushed Loki back and then lay down beside him. Loki looked up at the night sky, knowing he saw the same stars from a different perspective. Tony never looked up at the sky though—his attention was all focused on Loki's face and his smile.
Yeah I hope its gonna be a long one
If were lucky its moving slow
Wouldn't mind if it lasted all night
Lying next to you on that hillside lets go
When Loki looked over to the right to watch Tony, Stark quickly turned his attention to the sky, acting as though he never looked at Loki in the first place. One corner of Loki's mouth turned up in a small smile.
Bout a mile off old mill road
in that spot nobody knows
park the truck and we take off running
hurry up girl, I hear it coming
got a moon and a billion stars
sound of steel and old box cars
the thought of you is driving me insane
come on baby lets go listen to the night train
Tony saw Loki out of his peripherals and smiled, deciding to look back over at Loki and in his eyes again. He grabbed the black haired man's hand and grabbed the fleece blanket with his free hand. He tried to spread the blanket out over them with one hand, to which Loki chuckled and then helped Tony.
Let's go listen to the night train
Loki held back tears the second time that night as he lay his head on Tony's chest, feeling the iron but knowing that deep down Tony Stark did have a heart, even if was non-existent.
Let's go listen to the night train…
A/N: This was my first attempt at a Loki/Stark one-shot. I have another oneshot forming in my head at the moment so be on the lookout for that!
I know this song is very unconventional…not a lot of people choose country for fanfiction, but there is actually a funny story about this couple and the song.
