Sense and Sensibility

From the moment they'd first met the two of them had been close. Chad had always been fairly silent by nature, but Ichigo found that he spoke when it was necessary and that was enough for him.

Chad just had that kind of open quality about him that allowed closeness. In fact, if there was anything wrong with the man, it was more that it was too easily to get close to Chad.

Considering this closeness in their relationship it may have made sense to some that, one dinner-time, Ichigo found a warm pair of lips pressing down on his own. However, why don't you try being best-friends with somebody for four years and then, one day, have them turn around and kiss you completely out of the blue? It's a fairly shocking experience (it certainly short-circuited a few of Ichigo's brain processes), especially when said friend turns back to his dinner as though nothing at all had happened.

Ichigo stared at the huge man for several minutes as he tried to process what had just occurred. He then decided to give up on trying to finish his own lunch. Considering he hadn't actually moved a muscle for the past three minutes, despite the enticing aroma coming from his bentō box, this was probably sensible plan. However whether throwing said box in some random direction, with considerable strength, was such a sensible scheme, is debateable.

Ichigo wouldn't be joining in this debate; however, as he decided to take the very sensible action of pushing himself onto his hands and knees to reciprocate.

Chad's lunchbox, in comparison, was placed gently on the grass beside him before he pulled Ichigo up against him.

The orange-haired shinigami broke away to stare up at the single visible eye, "why did you kiss me?" he asked trying to wrap his head around the circumstances in which he found himself.

Chad shrugged nonchalantly, "seemed a good time," he answered, as usual, in as few a words as possible,

Ichigo blinked in surprise at his friends reply, "it seemed a good time? What's that suppose to mean?" his expression became curious, "how did you know I'd kiss you back?" he asked slightly incredulously

"It was obvious," Chad answered simply, Ichigo scowled further

"What was?" he asked trying to work out which question the boy had been answering. Chad merely smiled and kissed him again.

"Us."
