Estelle broke into a run. Her heartbeat was pounding faster than ever. Darkness fell everywhere in hazes of black and purple. She couldn't hear her own breath heave from her lungs and all she could do was run.
The ground started to rumble and a huge, black shadow with glints of yellow eyes rose above her. Terrified, Estelle fell to the ground, her legs aching with pain. The shadow grew even larger and at a height so unreal, it moved its head toward Estelle. Her insides were jumbled for fear.
"Pure of Heart..."
Estelle's lip quivered from fright and the shadow descended its face closer.
"Come with me..." And it stretched out a hand, swirling with black. The only light came from its dim yellow eyes. Estelle stood up and backed away feeling sick to the stomach. The shadow came closer and closer merely inches from her feet. Out of the black, a shining light twinkled in midair and the sinister shadow froze, its yellowish eyes still glowing with malevolence.
Mystified, she touched the surrounding aura of the glow. Softly shocking her pale fingers, it shaped into a key like form, large for its size. But again to her dismay, the ground rumbled and quaked harder and harder.
The floor below Estelle cracked, separating her from the key and its glimmering radiance. The shadow, now unfrozen, roared, and battered its fists onto the flooring. The ground opened a black and purple portal swarming with little black shadows.
Petrified to the spot, Estelle felt her heart throbbing with pain. Her mouth formed a cry but silence only made it worse. The portal grew and extended to her. Too late now to turn back anywhere and the shadows grabbed her. Estelle fell into darkness, the glimpses of a pair of yellowish eyes, etched into her mind. Noo...she heard her heart cry. Darkness was everywhere...
"Aaaahhhhh!!!" Estelle screamed in her bedroom. Her window opened to the cool, calm sky dotted with stars and moonlight.
"What, what?!" cried her best friend, Emmy, still with her blindfold on as she jumped out of her sleeping bag.
Estelle's forehead was beaded with sweat and her body shook, cold and pale.
"Hello, Estelle! Girl, what's wrong? You screamed pretty loud..." Emmy said, worried although her expression was half-hidden by the blue blindfold.
Estelle still felt the prick of coldness upon her skin but found her voice.
"Emmy? Is that you?"
"Course it's me. Who else? Now what's wrong?"
"I need to go outside."
Emmy followed Estelle as she climbed out her window onto the soft, sandy beach as the aqua waves whispered in the night. They both sat at a rocky ledge under some palm trees and Estelle tried to relax a little.
"I've been having these weird dreams lately."
"No kidding."
"I don't know what they mean. Pure of Heart..." Estelle had whispered the last bit of the sentence and Emmy shot her a slightly startled look.
"What?" Estelle asked.
"Oh nothing. It's nothing it's just, never mind."
Estelle didn't say anything after but she kept eyeing the sky and the ocean. Her thoughts still kept within. Pure of Heart...
Emmy was thinking too. Great, he found it and she's my best friend! Curse the timing...
