Ten long years I've honed this sword:
frost white blade as yet untried.
Today, like any other gentleman,
it's looking for injustice.

- Wu Pen (779-843), 'The Swordsman'

Night Falls, I Fall

Be true, fearless, clear of mind; I must know your heart before this night is through.

If you think revenge is my only motive, leave me. I will go on alone. Vengeance sullies and dulls the blade, it clouds the vision of even the wisest man. Nothing worthwhile comes to bear when all you seek is self-satisfaction.

If you are with me out of petty obligation, consider your debt extinguished. I will not think less of you. Perhaps history will look kindly if you are here in answer for your brother's life, but I won't.

Remember, the black we wear is for the nobility of the undertaking. Do not let it be based upon a lie. My experience, the authority of my years, it is no substitution if you do not believe.

But if you trust me, if my desire is yours, take my hand. Let me show you what the future can be.

If you trust me, Peter, then follow me.
