An very old oneshot I found in my files, I thought I would share with you all. Hope you like.
Duckling
The sun was shining down on the Inuzuka compound as Kiba and his dog finished their training for the day. The young shinobi frowned as he looked as his mutt who was covered in mud from head to toe. At a quick glance one would think that he was a brown dog.
"Come on Akamaru," Kiba yelled to his dog as he started to strip. "I bet you can't beat me to the pond!"
The large white dog answered with a huge bark as he set of towards the pond. Mere seconds later there was a huge splash as two figures hit the water. A family of Mallard was not very pleased to be disrupted scampered into the nearby reeds.
"Ah ha ha ha!" The Inuzuka laughed as he surfaced. Akamaru appeared moments later and splashed his partner, making him choke as the water went into his open mouth. "Akamaru! No playing dirty," he whined, which made Akamaru look rather smug with himself.
Kiba sighed and started to wash himself in the pond, with his dog watching. This was very boring so Akamaru decided that a little mischief was needed. Kiba went back under water to rinse his hair off, so Akamaru took this as his chance to disappear. Although Akamaru liked swimming he hated being cleaned, like all dogs and he knew that once Kiba was finished that he was next for a wash. He quickly swam to the nearest bunch of reeds by the shore and hid.
Once Kiba was finished he looked around to find that his dog was gone.
"Akamaru?" he said aloud. "Come on out or I'll get Hana to wash you."
Kiba thought that his threat had worked when he heard a rustle in some nearby reeds, but was sorely disappointed to find the family of ducks come out. They had finally deemed it safe enough to come out from their hiding place. Disappointed Kiba started to look foe Akamaru in the other direction, so Akamaru took this as his chance to sneak up on him. He slowly emerged from the reeds and silently made his way to pounce on his master. One could only see the top of the dog's head out of the water, and he looked like a freakish white crocodile.
Upon seeing this strange creature stalking the unsuspecting human, one of the little ducklings ignored all of its instincts and went to investigate what the dog was doing. To say that Akamaru was surprised was an understatement. The curious little duckling jumped onto his nose before looking directly into his eyes. Akamaru pulled his head out of the water and growled at the little creature.
Kiba heard Akamaru and spun around to see the funniest sight he had seen in a long time.
"Looks like you've made a new friend boy," he sniggered.
"Grrr," Akamaru replied as the fearless duckling took a liking to his furry nose and cuddled in even more.
"Aww come on now Akamaru, it's just a little baby," Kiba giggled even more. "Don't scare it."
Akamaru replied with a whine that Kiba translated as 'Little runt isn't scared at all!', but this just made Kiba laugh even more.
The exasperated mother Mallard looked back to her wayward offspring and let out a warning call, which made the little duckling jump off and head back to its family. The ducks then made their way upstream leaving a rather grumpy Akamaru behind.
"That's what you get for avoiding having a wash," Kiba said before pouncing on the dog with the shampoo in his hand.
