Disclaimer: I do not own Camp Rock or the song lyric. I don't even know what song it is from.
A/N: This is a response to pyrolyn-776's challenge. I know I have already done one, but since I haven't had much time to write, this is a quick, fun way to keep in practice. So thank you Pyro for providing a great source of inspiration. I don't usually tag people because I feel impolite, but MissNata13 and applepips16, if you need a break from your awesome works in progress (shameless plus – go read their stories), it would be fun to see what you came up with. No pressure, though.
60. "If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world."
Nate was never going to want her the way she wanted him to. In the back of her mind, she has always suspected it, but until today, she had still had hope. And now her hope was gone. He liked someone else, and he wanted to share it with his good friend Caitlyn. How excited he was. How amazing the girl was. Caitlyn was proud of herself for keeping it together for their entire conversation. Thank God Mitchie had figured out what was happening and provided her with a graceful out.
So now she was curled up on her bunk sobbing into her pillow, her body shaking. How was it even possible for it to physically hurt this much? No one had touched her, but she felt bruised and battered all over.
Eventually the sobs subsided, and Caitlyn was surprised to see Jason sitting quietly on Mitchie's bunk watching her. She had no idea how long he had been there. She sat up, sniffling and gave him a small smile when he silently handed her a tissue. He didn't even flinch when she loudly blew her nose. He just sat on Mitchie's bed.
"I don't want to talk about it," she finally croaked out. She had no idea if he even knew why she was crying.
"Okay," he replied simply. He looked at her carefully before getting up and crossing the room. He sat next to her on the bed and gave her a gentle hug. Caitlyn felt the tears welling up again. It felt so good to have someone hold her.
"Do you think you could just lie here with me? Not talk or anything. Just be here?" Caitlyn asked.
He didn't say anything; he just shifted his weight and leaned back so they were both lying down. He had his head on her pillow, and she was curled up against his chest. She listened as his heartbeat blocked out the rest of the world and she gently drifted off to sleep.
