The Ultimate Playlist of Samuel Dwight Evans

A Song That Reminds You of Your First Car

Due to financial difficulties and the living in New York for a few years Sam Evans never had a car of his own until he was 24 years old. He'd moved to Los Angeles when he decided that he and Rachel needed a car of their own; she'd got a part in a new independent film version and he'd moved out there with her too support her and also to hopefully start up his modelling career in L.A.

They'd tried to use public transport but for a number of different reasons they'd been unable to continue; the fact the buses were nearly almost always late, they'd once cost Sam a brilliant modelling job because he'd turned up over an hour late because the bus was running behind schedule

They'd tried Taxi's but the fair was ridiculous to get anywhere, the places they needed to go were too far to get there by foot and Rachel, for whatever reason, point blank refused to have her own personal driver (even though Sam somewhat became that after they'd bought a car).

So, they decided to buy a car and luckily enough they were able to pull together and buy at least a half-way decent one. Sam fell in love with the car immediately, he'd never had anything of his own before and as Rachel had failed her driving test (six times, NOT that Sam enjoyed reminding her) he became the driver - she'd paid for half, but it very much became his car. He even named it - 'Hudson'.

Music had always played a big role in their lives together and Rachel, being Rachel, had created a 'car playlist' that she felt would keep Sam content during the many trips he made to drop her off at the studios. Sam had scoffed at the idea at first but when he played it he realized how much care she'd put into it, and how much she wanted him to enjoy himself in the new car

Sam would often just take himself off for a drive going to no particular destination just so he could listen to his playlist.

And one song stood out over all the others, because it was a song that was ace to drive too and it was also a song that, for Sam, kind of defined where he and Rachel were in their lives. They didn't have much money (they'd blown most of it on the car, and outright buying their apartment) but they had each other and that was enough.

The car lasted six good years, until Puckerman totalled it during one of his visits, and Sam was sad to see it go. Of course by then he and Rachel had two children and a bigger people wagon was needed to ferry their little family around - but Sam would always remember 'Hudson' as the best car ever
