Note: After the ending of the second season it was necessary to go back to the drawing board and see what needed to be changed as there were done major inconsistencies that would have arisen. That being said I figured that since I had hardly got started in earnest I would restart the series. This time I look to actually write instead in place harsh template of the previous iteration. That being said the story elements will remain consistent perhaps with minor variation.
It was sunset in the Runtuh district, actually it was night in the Runtuh district. It was always night in the Runtuh district. Between the shadows cast from the overhanging tiers above during the day to the dim lights surveying the edge of the district at night, twilight was the Runtuh's permanent affixation. Xun crouched in wait at the top of high-rise apartment. Her dark hair almost auburn in the rich tones of the sinking sun, whipped softly in a light breeze sweeping off the distant coast.
The sun lazily finished its descent casting deep reds and purples strokes across the visible sliver of sky not obscured by the tier above. The nighttime helos began their descent into the belly of Runtuh, dropping large swathes of passengers from the other tiers finished with long days. Xun watched as they clambered out into the streets, hemming and hawing beneath the twinkling humming stars of support lights in the infrastructure above.
This was life in Runtuh, the endless slog, the listless mire, the apathetic soul, the killed dream. No one lived in Runtuh, they survived in Runtuh. People held together like the crumbling buildings, with patches and supports, the cables supporting buildings like the relationships between those who called it home; A deep, interwoven, complex network, ineffable to outsiders.
Xun watched as the usual faire crowded off the platforms. She could ignore them, consistent as they were they provided no satiation, unfit for a meal. She awaited the foolish soul from the upper tiers who decided to take a shortcut home. A juicy prize to be sure.
The occasional naïve found themselves brilliantly attempting to skip the double transfer they normally would take to the peak of the city, the Heaven's Embrace. They instead tried to make a single transfer in Runtuh, shorting themselves a mere few minutes. 'They'll also be shorting themselves a few thousand creds when I'm done with them" Xun thought merrily as she spied a drunken fool stumble as he was kicked from the helo.
Xun marked him as a predator does prey, focused on his movements with a fierce gaze and an iron concentration. While not immaculately dressed he wore the suit of a wealthy man, someone well compensated for their meager skills. Moving away from the helo platforms, he meandered widely towards the GXT terminal, the main transport for the city. Xun began to lay her route. She intended to cut him off at the corner, as he rounded a caved-in theater before them.
Strapping on her maglove she exploded off the top of the high rise. Grabbing a nearby cable she slid along with a belch of sparks. Electricity coursed through the cable as the induction coils in her glove propelled her at break-neck speeds.
Xun disengaged the glove dropping to a lower cable. Quickly the cable buckled under the weight of her 30 foot drop. The rock began disintegrating at the ends where the cable had been fixed with a substance possessing the grip of bluetack. Reacting with lightning speed Xun disengaged and looked for a landing spot soft enough to prevent broken legs.
Xun crashed full force into a wooden roof, creating an gaping skylight in the process. Surveying the damage she found her glove mangled, and dark bruising appearing on her arms as blood flushed the area. She began brushing off the dust and embarrassment. She was immediately roused to attention by a large crunch simultaneously followed by a sickening pop.
Leeringly she peered around the corner, only to find a pile of rubble and rent flesh. As if poorly performing a magic trick Runtuh had seemingly tried to make the man disappear, instead replacing him with the pile of gore before her. As Xun took a step closer to examine the remains of her bounty another boulder came tumbling from the theater above. Landing squarely on the man's remains, Runtuh seemed to be signaling a questioning 'tadaa?'.
