Echoes of One's Past

-Beginning-

The cloudy weather perfectly matched the events of that life-changing day.

Only twenty minutes before the news, I'd gotten home from work, only to notice that my younger, and only, sister wasn't in the kitchen, doing her homework.

"Must've traveled down to help at the shelter again." I said, smiling.

I placed my coat back onto the coat rack and set my purse on the couch, and then looked out the living-room window of our house, which overlooked a pond.

Snow was gracefully falling down, like a ballerina.

I looked up at the gray sky for a heartbeat, then turned pivot and walked away from the window.

I didn't know why at the time, but I got a bad feeling in that moment, looking at the sky, which is why I walked away from it.

I walked down the corridor, and looked into my sister's clean room.

"Huh… so she did clean it after all." I muttered, looking at her first blanket, which was hung on the wall, parallel to her bed.

I heard the phone ring, earning an agitated sigh from me as I jogged to the kitchen, where the phone was.

I reached the phone by the 4th ring, and clicked the answer button.

"Hello?" I asked, looking out the window.

"This is Ms. Vane, correct?" A very official, albeit feminine, voice asked me.

"Yes, this is Ms. Aquanetta Vane. Who is this?" I answered, curious.

"We regret to inform you, but earlier today, your sister, Ms. Birdena Vane…"

"Yes?" I asked, fear creeping into my words

"…Has been kidnapped."

And with that, my whole world shattered into millions of aqua colored pieces.

I lost my little bird, and that caused it all.
