Someone To Watch Over Me
Hi guys! It's been a long time since I have seriously given an attempt at fanfic's, and with all the buzz about the hunger games, I remembered an Ella Fitzgerald song (for which this fix is named after) and the hint of a story began to form. So after much messing about, this was the result. Im wanting to write more, but I won't if no one takes a shining to it.
Oh I almost forgot, this story is set in the HG universe, but pretty much everything else is different. All the characters in this fic are original, meaning the past victors are not the same, and different events have occurred because of this (this is an alternate turn of events in the HG universe). FLAMERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
As much as might wish otherwise, the rights to the Hunger Games franchise to do belong to their respective owners (sadly not me)...
Soooooo thats my rant, thanks for reading it :) I hope you all enjoy it :P
The gentle tinkling sound of wind chimes rouse me. My eyes slowly soak in the stray streaks of sunlight that shimmer through the gossamer curtains. I can feel that energy begin to flow through my body as I noiselessly rise, as to not wake my still slumbering family. My gaze drifts off into the distance as my feet silently navigate the oaken floors until all they feel is gravel. For a while I simply am there, standing, feeling the cool summer breeze dance through my chestnut hair as I admire the view from my front-porch. Now that I have exited the house I can hear clearly the tension in the air; a buzz that is all too uncommon in a traditionally hushed District 1 sunrise. The air of unease my sensitive ears have picked up on is the cumulative anxiety of the dozens of restless teens like me that did not want this day to come.
Today is a very special day, for it is the day of The Reaping.
I let the sights of what used to be known as Bryce Canyon nestle fresh into my memory, as I know this may very well be the last time I see it. The wind dies down as my ears notify me that my parents too are beginning to feel the suns call to arms. I let the last traces of wind flutter off my skin before returning into my home. My usually alert and present self has gone. It has been replaced with a blankness for which has no remedy. I think back to when I was small, and all those combat lessons seemed like fun and games. But now I know better. In the past, these days had little meaning to me. Even if my name had been called, scores of other victor hopefuls would jump at the chance to be selected. But today is different. Today I have reason to fear, because I Alistar Ryan O'Leary, am going to be volunteering.
Ok I know this isn't much at all, but I felt it was written at four in the morning. I hope everyone likes it!
