Seen It All

Kagome stared. She had thought she had seen it all in her time spent wandering around the Feudal era. Half-dog demons stuck to trees with sacred arrows, lecherous monks with black holes in their palms, a yellow cat that could be tiny and cute one minute and a huge flying saber-toothed demon the next... and that was just her traveling companions! Include a cold demon whose true form was a white dog the size of a 6-story building, reanimated dead, and of course the wide variety of demons that just had to go after the jewel shards, and thus her, and you would think nothing and nobody could shock her anymore. Yet here she was, staring at something that did just that.

It was dead... now, its white fur stained crimson. She continued to stare, noting its four large paws, its glazed, round red eyes, and its massive, and strangely still, pink nose. She was vaguely aware Sesshomaru was staring at her, still in his true form. She continued to stare at the dead creature, morbidly fascinated by the long ears and fluffy tail. She knew she shouldn't be surprised, not with Sesshomaru standing there, his canine jaws red from killing the creature. He was a giant dog, granted a demon, but still a big fluffy white dog that had told Rin, who then cheerfully informed the group, that he did not eat 'human food'. Kagome had often wondered what he did eat, though now wished she didn't have her answer. She hadn't meant to interrupt his dinner, but she had wanted some quiet time to cool off from Inuyasha's latest blunder and hadn't realized she had wandered so far.

"I'm sorry Sesshomaru," she managed to choke out, still stunned by the sight, "I'll let you eat your dinner in peace." Tearing her gaze away, Kagome turned and walked back the way she had come, trying to ignore the uninterested huff and the gruesome sounds of the great dog demon tearing flesh and muscle from bone. Nightmares, she knew, would remind her over and over that she had perhaps seen it all now. When she returned to the village, Kaede was there, a roasted skewer of meat in hand.

"Come eat, child," she encouraged, offering the stick to Kagome. Kagome looked at the meat and felt her stomach turn. Refusing the meat, she excused herself, claiming she wasn't hungry. Inuyasha's voice drifted to her from inside the hut, though she ignored him.

"Keh," he huffed, "Since when does Kagome not like rabbit?"

A/N: Poor Kagome! The series never did mention what Sesshomaru ate if not 'human food', but I figured since he is a giant dog, a giant rabbit would be a good choice.
