Aunt Pinako brought out the cake with a neighbor/friend from a few houses over, setting it down on the wooden table they were using for food. Winry wandered over, wanting to help, looking for anything that would get her away from the happy guests.

It was New Years Eve, while it didn't snow in Resembool, it did get cooler. The Christmas tree was still up, it's green branches decorated with gold and crystal ornaments glowing with lights.

Pinako, using a sharp long knife, carefully cut slices of the pastry in front of her, the shape giving way to mint-green ice cream with chocolate pieces in it. Winry smiled as she watched her grandmother.

'Mint chip ice cream was Ed's favorite.' She thought silently to herself. The neighbor who had brought the cake had made the ice cream, which only seemed to add to Winry's silent sorrows. 'He would have loved homemade ice cream, especially if it was his preference.'

The blonde managed to help hand out cake slices to all the guests, who were mingling on the lawn of the Rockbell Automail shop with anticipation for the fireworks to start. After she had received her own slice however, Winry retreated up the stairs, away from the lights and happy people.

Pinako sighed as she watched her granddaughter departed up the stairs. 'Honestly. How long is she going to grieve over him? It's been a year and a half already. I miss them too, but she acts as if he's never coming back. He just might.'

Out on her balcony, clutching the plate of ice cream in one hand and her spoon in the other, Winry looked to the sky that was filled with bright shimmering stars. Her vision suddenly blurred, and the girl put her plate on the floor in favor of using her hands to rub fiercely at her eyes.

Pale drops of water fell onto the wooden railing of the balcony, seen by no one except Winry. The girl continued to cry silently, even as she heard the people below count down to midnight.

When the booms and flashing colors of light signaling the fireworks show beginning Winry dried her tears, watching the sky grow light and dark. She once again picked up her ice cream cake, which was softer than when she put it down.

Sticking the spoon in her mouth with another bite, the blonde watched the sky, her blue irises taking in everything and nothing. If she closed her eyes, she could imagine that another blonde was beside her, watching the fireworks with her.

She smiled.

'Happy New Year, Ed.'

Hallo! This is a little one-shot again, EdWin I guess. I wasn't aiming for fluffy or anything, and don't automatically think that Ed's favorite ice cream flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip. I just wanted to do this little fic. This is dedicated to my Nii-sama, again.
