Metamorphosis
The bladebreakers were taking a long overdue break in the city park. Tyson and Hilary had gone out for lunch, Kenny was typing on his keyboard updating everyone's beyblades, Max had gone to the lake, and Rei had up and disappeared. So Kai decided that he would go and take a walk to unwind. As he entered the woods, he heard a haunting voice drift back to him.
"I've been so wrapped up in my warm cocoon, something's happening, things are changing soon. I'm pushing that edge, I'm feeling it crack. And once I get out, there's no turning back. Watching the butterfly go towards the sun, I wonder what I will become."
Kai walked toward the sound of the voice until it was right above him. He glanced up and there was Rei, eyes closed, singing to himself. Kai had never really looked at Rei, but now that he was, he noticed that the neko had let his hair down around his shoulders. Kai wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he loved Rei's hair, how thick and silky it was.
"Metamorphosis, what ever this is, whatever I'm going through. Come on and give me a kiss, come on I insist, I'll be some thing new, a metamorphosis."
As Kai listened, Rei sighed, and shifted on the branch. Kai glanced up, and noted that Rei's eyes were opened to slits. Kai also loved Rei's eyes, they looked like liquid gold, and they were very expressive. They shone when he was happy, they dimmed when he was sad, and they could almost shoot sparks when he was angry.
"Things are different now, when I walk by, you start to sweat, and you don't know why. It gets me nervous, but it makes me calm.
To see life all around me, moving on. Watching the butterfly, go towards the sun, I wonder what I will become."
A smile graced Kai's lips. Rei's walk was very unique too. He moved with the fluid grace of his kind, yet there was a type of swagger in there, as if he knew that all eyes were on him and him alone.
"Metamorphosis, whatever this is, whatever I'm going through. Come on and give me a kiss, come on, I insist, I'll be something new, a metamorphosis."
Rei opened his eyes completely and looked around, then noticed Kai studying him. Rei smirked when Kai blushed and looked away. He jumped down and wrapped an arm around his friend.
"So, did you like what you saw?" Rei asked, a dimple in his cheek as he grinned at his teammate. Kai grunted and looked away again, a blush coloring his cheeks. Rei turned the Russian's head to look at him in the eyes.
"You know, Kai, I've been thinking. I've tried to reason with myself, and I keep coming to the same conclusion. I love you, and that's all there is to it." Rei looked Kai in the eyes and blinked. Were those tears in the bluenette's eyes? Oh, dear God he hoped not.
When Kai looked at Rei, his eyes were dry. Rei breathed an internal sigh of relief, glad that he didn't cause Kai any unnecessary pain, or something like that.
"you know, Rei. I've liked you for some time now, but was too afraid to admit it. I figured you were straight, and if I told you that I was gay, you would never look at me the same again." Kai said, not meeting the neko's eyes. He looked up sharply when he heard a stifled giggle. Rei couln't help it, Kai had looked so adorable with his lower lip pouting as he explained himself.
On impulse, Rei took Kai's chin in his hand and forced the bluenette to look at him.
"Kai," Rei said, looking into Kai's eyes, "why would you think that?"
"I dunno, I just thought it would freak you out or something, I guess." Kai mumbled, not meeting Rei's eyes. Rei sighed then pressed his lips to Kai's. Kai's eyes widened before closing. They broke apart when they heard voices coming towards them.
"I think they're over here!" they heard Tyson yell. Rei met Kai's eyes and then they grinned, both resolving never to tell anyone what happened. It was their secret after all.
