Author's Note: "Not Fade Away" was one of the best episodes of Angel. And one of the saddest. Wesley's death-"would you like me to lie to you now?"-made me sob. Lorne's final scene left me heartbroken. The alleyway. Suspenseful music. Big damn heroes... END SHOW. ...what? Yeah. That just happened.

Still, I finally understand...

So please read, review, and enjoy. :)

"We're fighting for air; it's not fair

The gods are immune to our plea…"

~Where I Go—Nick Gardner

"Wesley's dead."

The following silence hung around us, and the black rain fell fast and hard.

We weren't going to make it out of this alive.

Hell, maybe Wes got off easy.

He'd be with Fred right now.

*BOOM*

They're coming.

Approaching quickly, marching side-by-side.

The first few break from the ranks and sprint ahead of the pack, their weapons raised and ready.

Well…

This is it.

I glance behind me.

Spike, Gunn, and Illyria.

Four soldiers left.

It's hard to believe.

After everything…

Doyle and Cordelia.

Fred and Wesley.

This is for you.

The screams are louder now.

Coming closer.

Should I care?

We took a stand.

We fought back.

So I guess not.

I'm ready for the end.

Nothing we do matters.

And all that matters is what we do.

"Let's go to work."
