LIFE'S A GAME

"Alright," Olivia said, "I cast a spell with the Rod of Wonder." She rolled her dice and groaned, "3."

Cody shook his head, "Your spell bounces off the necromancer's shields and hits you. You are transformed into a water fountain for three turns."

Olivia wasn't too upset by this, "Hey guys, throw coins in me!"

"Your turn, London," Zack said.

"Alright, I try to talk the necr-nec-the evil guy out of battle," she rolled her dice and grinned in triumph, "Natural 20."

Cody groaned, London's ridiculous dice luck was the bane of his GM-ing, "London's elf is successful in talking the necromancer out of fighting. He stops his undead minions from feasting on your party and begins talking with London's character."

"While he's distracted," Zack began, "My ranger sneaks up behind him and attempts to assassinate him." He rolls his dice and crows with glee, "20! Woohoo! Take that suck-face!"

Cody sighed, "Zack slits the necromancer's throat. His minions fall as the magic keeping them ambulatory flows out of them."

"Hey!" London cries indignantly, keeping in character and directing her remarks to Zack, "Watch it with the blood. I just polished this armor."

"Time to move on," Zack says, "Let's keep going. We're a long way from our goal."

"The party starts back on the trail-" Cody starts to say but is cut-off.

"Gurgle! Splash!" Olivia yelps, casting pleading eyes on the rest of her party.

"What are you doing?" London asks, breaking character.

Olivia also breaks character to reply, "I'm still a fountain! Cody said for three turns, we haven't had three turns yet!"

"Oh, right. We forgot something else, too." London says grinning and rubbing her hands together, "Time to loot the body." She was always the first to loot the body. Always.

"You find an amulet and a small pouch of unidentifiable powder," Cody responds.

London pauses for a moment, "Can I find out what the powder is?"

"Arcane knowledge check," Cody replies.

London rolls her dice again and runs a finger down her character sheet to find the appropriate skill, "17 on the dice with a plus 4 modifier, so 21."

"Okay," Cody says, "You discover the powder is actually a substance that cancels spells."

"Convenient," Zack jibes his brother while Cody rolls his eyes.

"I pour the powder into the water of the fountain," London ignores Zack.

"Olivia's mage is restored to her true form and the party is able to move on." Cody says.

"Thanks London," Olivia says. London hadn't really grasped the concept of the character name being fantasy based and had named her character for herself. Funnily enough, she was playing a male elf.

"No problem. While you made a pretty fountain," London began in a flirty tone, making eyes at Olivia, "You make an even prettier little mage."

Cody and Zack watched as Olivia blushed under London's regard. London's character had been flirting mercilessly with Olivia's human mage. The boys though it was a great running gag because Olivia would almost always get flustered, stammer responses, and try get the campaign going again. Sometimes though, Olivia would give a saucy reply and make everyone laugh.

When the session ended Cody and Zack were shocked when London took Olivia's hand and dragged her away.

Apparently it wasn't only the characters romancing each other.
