I Cried for You
You're beautiful,
so silently it lies beneath the shade of blue
It strucked me, so violently
when I looked at you
But others pass, they never pose
to feel the magic in your hand,
to me you're like a wild rose they never understand
When she entered the room, everybody else fell silent, looked around awkwardly and left one by one. It was commonly known in Hogwarts she'd been – she still wanted to say she is – Cedric's girlfriend. Leaving her alone with him, or better, his body, was the least her co-students could do for her.
He lay in a coffin, hands folded around each other, and a smile on his face. His coffin had been placed in the square of light shining on the floor, formed by a huge open window. It was a beautiful day outside – she could smell the leaves on the trees in the Forbidden Forest – and the light, which had a bluish color, made Cedric only look more beautiful.
Tears came to her eyes and she dropped herself on a chair. This was the first time she saw Cedric after Harry had brought his body back from the graveyard. He's really dead, she thought, realizing for the first time. She turned her gaze away from Cedric, but his face was printed in her mind and she had to fight back the tears.
So many have been here before me, but they didn't really care, they didn't see how you were a special person, not just a triwizard champion, she thought. To her, Cedric had been unique, the only one who really had understood her, and she was the only one who had really understood him, still understood him.
I cried for you,
and the sky cried for you
and when you went I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you,
though I learned from you
the beauty only need to be a whisper
She'd cried many tears since that dreadful night of the third challenge. She'd walked around with red eyes from crying ever since that night. She hadn't realized though, until now, that he was really dead. And now she didn't want to cry. She felt the tears burning, but she needed to keep them in. She didn't know why, she just had to.
He died in a noble way, she kept repeating to herself. She knew it, but she still couldn't process the thought. Why Cedric? Why not somebody else? Why not… Harry?
This was his purpose in life, she heard Dumbledore say, in her head. Maybe this was his purpose, maybe this life was not meant for Cedric to live happily with her.
She suddenly remembered Cedric's last words he had said – or better, whispered – to her. I love you, forever. It were the most beautiful words she had ever heard. I love you. So much emotion and value in just three little whispered words.
It had maybe been his destiny to die this way, but Cedric had given her a wonderful time in her life. He had taught her to appreciate the small. But now he was gone and she'd been left alone in the world.
Without you, now I see
how fragile the world can be
and now I know you've gone away
but in my heart you'll always stay
And she felt small and vulnerable in the world now. Cedric had left this world and with him, a piece of her heart had left too.
She stood up from the chair, walked to his coffin and pressed a kiss on Cedric's cold lifeless lips.
"I-I love you too, Cedric, forever," she whispered.
A tear left Hermione's eye and fell on Cedric's lips.
I cried for you
