A perfect suicide

Names.

Names.

A single tear ran down her cheek.

She tightened her fists.

The warming sun had made her tear disappear among the drops of sweat that covered her face.

As a shadow came covering her face, she raised her head.

She saw him. She closed her eyes, as tears were beginning to roll on her face.

Were these tears of shame, remorse, anger, sadness, or fear?

Did it really matter.

''You gave us a name.'', the boy said.

She opened her eyes again and nodded.

''I did.'', she said.

As she got up, the boy stepped back.

He got hold of his gun.

The only thing humans are equal in... is death.

The voice echoed inside Tenma's head.

Humans are equal in life. Whether they are bad people or not doesn't count when it comes to the right to live.

There is no justice in death. There is only death.

And no one else would have to die. It was over.

Doctor Tenma took his head in his hands. It had not been a question of good or evil. There was no such thing as a real monster. There were only humans.

The boy held out the gun and offered it to the woman in front of him.

There was a long pause.

''You created me. I still exist because of you.'', he finally said.

Silently, slowly, she extended her hand and took it.

Then, the boy put a finger on his forehead and waited.

She said his name.

And she shot twice.

The two bodies were discovered in the morning by one of the nuns.

A soft shock indicating that the train had come to a halt brought him back to reality. Kenzo Tenma raised his head and saw Nina waving at him through the window. He smiled, his head enlightened by the warming sun. Today would be a good day.

The blond boy was lying in the grass. At last, he had found a name, but there was no longer anyone around to call him by it. Engel* was such a wonderful name, though.

*Angel, in German.
