Happy New Year everyone! just a quick story To celebrate 2011!
Annabeth Pov:
It was New Year's Eve and Chiron had organized yet another firework party. I was on my way to the beach with 2 towels for me and Percy to sit on and a basket full of crackers, fruit, and other snack foods. I overheard all of the Aphrodite girls gossiping about who they were planning to kiss at midnight. "Damn!" I was so caught off guard that I actually swore out loud. I had completely forgotten about the tradition of kissing at midnight, and I was going to be with Percy at midnight, when everyone else was kissing.
"You know you want tooo." A voice cooed.
"What!" I said quickly as I spun around to find out who had been able to read my thoughts, It was Aphrodite.
"You know, kiss Percy." She said with a sly grin.
"Nnn-oo I don't." I stammered.
" Awhhh you're so cute! When you lie you stutter!" The goddesses giggled.
Before I could respond I saw Percy across the way, he hadn't spotted us yet but it was only a matter of time. "Quick go away! Percy's coming!" I whisper shouted.
"I see you later but you just have to tell me how your kiss goes." She added
"We might not kiss!" I yelled but it was too late the goddess had already disappeared.
Did I want to kiss Percy? He was a seaweed brain… but he's really cute!
"Loyal too!" Another part of my brain chimed.
My brain kept thinking about reasons why I like Percy when,
"Annabeth! Earth to wise girl!"
It was Percy, "What." I said with a mental head shake.
"You were just sitting there with this blank look in your eye… I was worried." Percy said concern drifting in his voice.
"Oh... I'm fine I was just…" my face was probably beet red. "Day dreaming."
I finished. Oh gods this was awkward.
"uh we should go…" Percy said. He probably felt awkward to.
"Yeah…" I quickly replied. "Let's go."
We began to walk towards the beach in silence but thank gods Percy broke the quiet,
"So what's in the basket?"
Oh the basket, ummm what is in the basket? How come I couldn't remember, why am I so nervous?
"Let's see, there's crackers and uh fruit and stuff."
"Cool." he said.
We couldn't have gotten to the beach faster. I quickly laid done my towel and handed him his. Mine had multicolored owls scattered along the fabric and his had several types of exotic fish.
"Where did you find these? There Awesome!"
I felt my face getting hot at Percy's compliment. "I uh ordered them online because they were having a towel sale, so I just picked them out and, uh yeah.
As the fireworks began to go off I got out all the food and had a chance to check out what everyone else was doing. Most everyone was with a date or with a group of friends, eating, laughing and just having a good time. I cursed myself got not inviting Selena and Charlie to double.
When I was done setting everything up I leaned back to watch the show. There were the classics like Hercules and Jason also an image of each god/goddess and before I knew it the countdown was starting. I knew from past experience the fireworks would count down each number until zero and then the finale will go off.
"And everyone will kiss!" my subconscious tacked on.
My thoughts where interrupted when everyone started chanting
"10" What am I going to do!
"9" What if he tries to kiss me!
"8" What if he doesn't
"7" What if I kiss him and he doesn't like it
"6" What if I try to kiss him and he leans away
"5" What if he goes to kiss someone else
"4" What if someone else kisses him first
"3" What if I freeze up
"2" What if I have bad breath
"1" What if…..
"Happy New Year." Percy Whispered as he leaned in and kissed me the fireworks exploding behind us.
"Happy New Year's Seaweed Brain." I said with a grin and I kissed him again.
