Inspired by a scene in "Depths" and a post by my friend on tumblr, I decided to give traught a shot. It's short, but I hope you enjoy. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
"Hey, I'm not that rusty." She said, feigning indignation. A wry smile graced her lips, as if to say, "but thanks for looking out."
It might have been the adrenaline, it might have been nerves, it might have been all sorts of things. But, for whatever reason, that smile made Dick's world stop. It was something unexplainable. Perhaps the stars had aligned at that moment, perhaps some power had granted him new clarity, but it was a revelation. Seeing her there, so confident and strong. Lethal grace somehow personified in flesh and bone. He could only stare in wonder.
Dick couldn't find a name for the feeling. His lexicon had no way to define or describe whatever was consuming him at that moment. Could it even be called a feeling? Could it possibly be grouped with such banal emotions as anger or happiness?
The line between admiration and affection was a thin one, and one he might have already crossed. Perhaps into something so much more.
