MARINE
In the dense, dark, swampy jungle of an unknown planet, a Marine woke. His name was Gorm. He was lying against a tall, strange-looking tree. He stood up, confused. His assault rifle was laying several metres away in the mud, next to a murky swamp. The Marine began walking over to the rifle and picked it up. Water and dirt streaked the once shiny metal. As Gorm turned, movement appeared in the corner of his eye. In the swamp. He turned back and held up his gun, but only ripples were on the water. Gorm was going to fire, but because he didn't know where he was, it was best not to alert anything listening—or watching. He kept the rifle pointed at the water for a short while, then turned and walked into the jungle in a random direction.
Gorm noticed a smell. A bad smell. He walked in the direction of the stench and found a dead body. It was a human body. His clothes were dirty and ragged, and Gorm leant forward to try and find out where the person had come from.
What he saw shocked him.
There was a badge on the dead man's shoulder that read: UNSC ARMY
Gorm turned the body over and found out what had probably killed him. A deep slash ran across the man's back from his left shoulder to his right hip. The slash looked like it had been done by an animal. But what animal has claws like this?
Just then, an ear-splitting roar echoed through the trees. Then a thump. A footstep. Thump. They were getting closer. Gorm ran and soon the jungle ended with a vast flood plain.
