Wishes were whispering
Jack was sitting at the beach watching the sun sinking down the sky, when Kate sat down next to him. They didn't speak, just started at the horizon. The horizon that separated Jack from freedom, the horizon that separated Kate from imprisonment. Then suddenly at the same moment, they spoke.
'Kate.'
'Jack.'
Then they laughed and looked into each other's eyes.
'Jack, what would you do once you got away from here?' Kate asked him.
'Everything that is normal, but which I haven't done for the past forty days,' Jack said looking at the horizon again. 'What would you do?'
'I'd probably be in prison again, so there isn't much remaining for me to do,' Kate replied, her eyes shining with tears.
'Just forget about that now, what would you then do?' Jack asked again.
'I'd visit the grave of my old boyfriend I murdered,' Kate said with a snort.
'You know what I'd also do? I'd propose you once were of this island,' Jack said looking in Kate's eyes now.
'You would?' Kate asked surprised.
Jack nodded, put his arm over Kate's shoulder and once more started to the horizon.
'But they're only wishes,' Kate whispered.
Jack knew this was true and therefore remained silent for the rest of the evening.
