Last year Maddie had graduated from college and when she did she started trying to get signed, of course it didn't take long at all especially with the connections me and her mom has. A year after graduation she came to tell us she was going on tour with Hunter Hayes, I was so excited for her but I also couldn't help but feel a pang in my chest that night I tried to go to sleep. Maddie was my little girl even though she wasn't the youngest a dad always has a soft spot for the first girl. For part of the night I was twisting and turning when I realized that I wasn't going to be able to get any sleep so I decided that I would try to write a song to see if that would help. The song only took about 2 hours since I knew what I wanted to say I just had to put it to words. When I finished I decided that I should try to go bed since I had to be up early to help decorate for the party we're throwing for Maddie. The party was in full swing when I decided that I would play the song I had wrote for her. "Hey y'all thanks for coming out and celebrate Maddie's exciting news with us. Me and her mom couldn't be more proud of the woman she has become. Last night I couldn't sleep so I decided to write a song for Maddie who no matter how old you get you will always be my little girl." I finished saying before I started to play.
"Gotta hold on easy as I let you go Gonna tell you how much I love you Though you think you already know
I remember I thought you looked like an angel Wrapped in pink, so soft and warm You've had me wrapped around your finger Since the day you were born
You beautiful baby from the outside in Chase your dreams but always know the road That'll lead you home again Go on, take on this whole world But to me you know you'll always be, my little girl
When you were in trouble that crooked little smile Could melt my heart of stone Now look at you, I've turned around And you've almost grown
Sometimes you're asleep I whisper 'I love you' In the moonlight at your door As I walk away, I hear you say "Daddy, love you more"
You beautiful baby from the outside in Chase your dreams but always know the road That'll lead you home again Go on, take on this whole world But to me you know you'll always be, my little girl
Someday, some boy will come And ask me for your hand But I won't say yes to him unless I know He's the half that makes you whole
He has a poet's soul, and the heart of a man's man I know he'll say that he's in love But between you and me He won't be good enough
You beautiful baby from the outside in Chase your dreams but always know the road That'll lead you home again Go on, take on this whole world But to me you know you'll always be, my little girl"
When I finished the song Maddie ran up to me and gave me a big hug and the both of us stood there wrapped in each other arms crying. Before we let go I started to whisper in her ear, "I love you Maddie and I mean it you could be 50 years old and you'll still be my little girl who used to be scared of storms and would never let go of me when I had to go on for tours because you hated when we left and you weren't ready to say goodbye. So I need you to promise me that every chance you can come back and visit because I'm not ready to say goodbye either." " Daddy trust me I'm not either, I'm going to miss you and mom so much. You guys mean the absolute world to me, I love you." She whispered back. I realized one day I will have to give her away and say goodbye but today right now she's my little girl.
