Under the Mistletoe BBM story
Ennis didn't celebrate holidays not since he was a little boy in Sage, oh sure he went through the motions, especially when he got married to Alma and had his two little girls. He wouldn't ever let them know that while he was smiling in the inside he was full of a heap of sadness on the inside, missing the one person in his life that truly was a gift to his heart. One that made his soul sing and was his miracle on Earth.
Things changed when Ennis got divorced, he didn't even try to celebrate the holiday. He just try to find work when he could or spend it alone eating apple pie and having a cup of coffee in an odd diner that happened to be open on Christmas.
Today he was snuggled under a thick blanket all warm and cozy. He had been dreaming of his fella, Jack Twist.
Ennis' daughters were grown and had moved away, he was alone, just as he knew he would be. He pulled the covers back over his head, maybe later he'd get up and eat, maybe shovel the snow off his truck and the drive.
He was startled out of his reverie by a pair of lips kissing his cheeks.
"Ennis, what are you dreaming about, cowboy? You were moaning something awful. Are you okay?"
"Jack? What are you doing here, how come you're not in Texas?" Ennis opened his eyes. Instead of the lonely shack he'd been living in after his divorce, Ennis was in a nice ranch style house. In a king-size bed and a roaring fire in the fireplace on the far wall made the room nice and toasty.
"Cause we're a couple, been living together for the past four years. That's why. This is our home, together. It's our own miracle and it didn't even happen during Christmas either."
"I thought I was dreaming all this, I didn't think this could ever happen. It's all real, Jack?"
"Yeah, Ennis. Just like us being successful ranchers, our kids not hating us cause we're queer. Having lots of friends who don't care that we're together." Jack got out of bed and grabbed Ennis' hand and pulled him out of bed. "Come on, cowboy, I got something else to show you." Jack dragged him out of bed and down the hallway to the living room. There, in the corner, stood a seven-foot Christmas tree. All decorated from top to bottom and on top of the barely visible tree skirt were presents.
"How could I forget getting all them holiday gifts for you?" Ennis moaned.
"Well you think Santa got yours all by himself?"
"Should we open em?" Ennis sound like a little kid.
"Yeah in just a minute. We got ta do something first."
"Like whut?" Ennis looked at him. "Oh, I get it, you want me to make those chocolate chip pancakes, the one with the powdered sugar you like so much."
"Well yeah, but we can wait till later for those."
"Well then what are we waitin' for, let's open presents."
"First we gotta do something else." Jack pointed upwards. Ennis followed Jack's index finger and looked over their heads at the mistletoe hanging on the archway that led into their living room. Ennis looked down at Jack, he felt Jack's hand grab the back of his head and pull him into a very passionate kiss. He felt the front of his PJ bottoms get very tight.
"Okay now we open gifts."
Santa was very good to Ennis and Jack, cause they were very good people. They knew what really mattered most was not who you loved but that you knew how to love and deeply.
Merry Christmas, everyone.
