He walks out of the shower and finds her stretched out, blowing smoke rings on thei-his bed. Not theirs. Not for three weeks.
"What do you want, Lils?" he asks, and he's proud there's no bitterness in his voice. He reaches down and grabs a shirt from the floor, takes a sniff of it before throwing it down again. "Is it money? A free shag?"
Her expression is one of pure boredom. "Can't I just stop and say hello?"
He rolls his eyes, grabs a pair of pants from the floor and wrestles them on before dropping his towel to the ground. "You haven't popped in to say hello in three weeks. So, no."
She takes a long drag of her cigarette causing him to wrinkle his nose. He wants to call her out on but he decides against it. Lily will always do what she wants.
She gives a large sigh, sits up, reaches down to the floor and picks up a shirt, throwing it at him. He catches it, pulls it on, studying her. She wants something but what? He can't read her and that troubles him more than he's willing to admit. He's always been able to read her, tell what she's thinking. But not this time. He frowns before sitting down beside her.
He's not sure what to say, what not to say, and there's so much tension, and why does she keep doing this? Walking into his life, just to leave it when she gets bored.
It's silent for a moment before she sighs and says, "We need to talk, Teddy." She pulls something from her pocket and it takes him a second to realize what it is and.
"Oh, fuck," he whispers, and she laughs, and what a cold sound.
"Been there, done that," she says, and he laughs, even if it wasn't funny, because he's not sure what else to do.
He can't look at her. "Are you sure?"
She gives a soft yes and for a moment, they both just stare at the small plastic stick before he slowly takes her hand."We'll make it though this."
She nods. They both know she'll be gone in the morning, her restless spirit and her wanderer lust can't be tamed, and he'll be back to swearing up and down that he won't let her into his life again, but now they need a sense of normalcy so he holds her and she kisses him and they're both good at playing pretend so for a moment, they let themselves believe that destiny hasn't divided them, that they're not meant to play this game.
