I don't really know where the story came from...I just got the sudden idea, and had to write it down.
Wind whipped her dark hair in a frenzy around her face. Silent tears ran down her frozen cheeks, and she hugged her legs to her chest. The wintry night-air was bitter, and Vanessa hadn't grabbed a coat. She trembled uncontrollably, her teeth chattering and jarring her head. But at the moment, she didn't care. She hoped that the discomfort in her body would distract her from the pain in her chest. Her skin was numb. She wished her heart would be the same.
Everything seemed pointless. Meaningless. She couldn't keep back the fresh wave of hot tears flowing from her eyes, down her face, and into her wild hair. She choked as she felt her throat constrict.
Suddenly Vanessa sensed someone behind her. Something large and warm was draped over her shoulders. Looking to her right, she beheld a young boy in his teens, hair the color of grass after a spring's thunderstorm.
It was Ferb Fletcher.
Silently, he sat down next to her and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. Vanessa closed her eyes and allowed herself to relax onto his chest. Before she knew it, she was sobbing.
He didn't speak, but simply held her against him, rubbing her back in an attempt to bring warmth into her nearly frozen body. Vanessa was unaware of how much time passed. But very soon, she found she had run out of tears. Eyes aching, she lifted her head up and looked into the face of the boy beside her. She had never truly appreciated how much he had grown over the past couple of years. He was nearly as tall as she was now.
She gave him a watery smile.
"I'm s-sorry," she choked.
He put his finger to her lips.
"Don't talk," he whispered. With both thumbs he wiped away the icy tears glistening on her cheeks. He helped her to her feet. Drained, she grasped his shoulder to keep herself steady. In a swift movement, he swept her off her feet and held her in his arms. Vanessa sighed and pressed her cheek against his shoulder. Warmth flowed from his body to hers, and suddenly, she felt drowsy. Within minutes she was fast asleep.
Ferb carried her back into the house and carefully placed her on the sofa. Grabbing an afghan, he spread it over her body, taking great pains not to wake her. Then he knelt beside her and gazed at her peaceful face. He prayed that she would have no dreams filled with sorrow.
Leaning forward, he lightly kissed her on the forehead. She smiled.
"Thank you," she whispered.
Ferb flushed in embarrassment. He hadn't realized she was awake. He quickly stood back up and walked to the door. He looked back at her one more time, then left.
I was up late last night writing this. Like I already said, I was just sitting and doing nothing when the story came up. I have no plot background for it. I just wrote until it seemed complete.
Reviews would be nice. Thoughts, opinions, all that stuff. :)
