Title: Sinking like a Stone in the Sea
Author: Meesh
Disclaimer: Not mine...neither is the title.
A / N: The title is from a song by a band called Brand New. It's the from the first track, Tautou, off their album entitled Deja Entendu.
Dedication: For a friend.
I crumble under your stare, I hope you know. When I see you with him and you still give me that look. It's not fair that it has to be this way. That you have to be there and I have to be here. You know it's not fair.
I have to constantly tangle with myself, the frustration you give me. The triumph when you let me place my hands on your leather clad hips. The ache when having to imagine and only imagine what it'd really feel like. Skin against skin.
I crumble when you let me hold you. Unlike every other moment in life, you forfeit the role of being the leader. I crumble because you give into me but I'm not strong enough. I can barely handle the nights when I keep my palms up against your bedroom door, listening to you breathe. Drowned in the fantasy that I'd one day be the one in there with you.
I watch you let me push you against the corridor wall and I press against your covered body for all my life's worth. Every moment I expect my knees to buckle and my heart to explode from sheer excitement.
We will regret what's being done.
When your fingertips trail lightly over the thin material shielding my arms. Your lips hover painfully close to mine and that's as close as they'll ever get. Partly because of my powers, partly because of your boyfriend, and mostly because we're both afraid of sinking too deep. You're smart enough to tread the boundary, but never cross. Your breath lingers on my skin and I almost dare to dive in for a taste. But I stop.
You have to walk away. You have to walk it off, leaving me behind. Where I'm still thrumming and dazed, you run back to him. Though when you kiss him and touch his cheek, only a slight rougher than mine, you think of me, it is still unfair. No matter how hard you may try to imagine me in his place, no matter how hard I may try to imagine me in his place, it is not true. When you open your eyes to look up, it is still him that you're with. When I close my eyes to bed at night, I know, he is the only one you'll be with.
And in the morning, we catch each other's eye, share a look. There's something different with us. Then in that moment we stop breathing and realize the miles of ocean surrounding us.
