"Congratulations, Captain," the Doctor beamed expectantly. "It seems you and the Commander should be expecting a baby girl in eight months!"
"Oh… Doctor! How wonderful!" Captain Janeway exclaimed happily. "After all this time, we're finally going to have a child of our very own."
The Commander beamed, surprised yet supremely delighted for him and his wife. "Our teamwork never ceases to amaze me, Captain," the Commander said in a jokingly irreverent tone. "Our collaborations just keep getting better and better."
"Commander," the Captain said with a tone of warning. "I do have a name. Rank is not everything."
"It was everything to your mother for seven years!" he replied.
"But her opinion was soon changed by my father—oh, I miss them so much, darling! They would be so happy for me today!" Elizabeth Janeway sighed.
"Yes, they would be. Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay were wonderful parents to you, and great godparents to me. At least my mother is still here to share this with us." Commander John Paris squeezed his wife's shoulder reassuringly.
"Yes—if she wasn't, I don't know what I'd do. B'Elanna has been such a wonderful mother to you, and my most devoted aunt. Her Klingon spirit won't let her leave us any time soon!"
"No darling, it certainly won't! If death came to collect my mother, she'd scare it away with her bat'leth!" the Commander grinned.
The Captain smiled at her husband, then gave him a long, sweet kiss. "Let's go give her the good news, John."
"After you, Captain!"
"I thought I told you to stop that."
"Aye, sir."
Elizabeth sighed, then laughed. "I love you, John."
"I love you, too."
