A/N Alright, here comes the first chapter of my REVAMPED and IMPROVED version of The 13th Olympian, a few changes and I have made it a whole lot better in my opinion. The story is still in Percy's POV however, it is in an overall Third Person view. So my fellow readers, delve in and enjoy the new and improved 13th Olympian.
The Council of the Gods was nearly complete, all that was left was the reward ceremony for the conquering heroes of Olympus. The Gods were in various states of lounging on their thrones, some out of laziness some out of pure exhaustion, after all, it is not easy fighting against a nigh impossible to beat Earth Primordial and her army of Scaly Gigante.
The Gods were arranged in the Omega Symbol, which to Percy just looked like a giant, reversed U, but he would never admit that out loud. The Son of Poseidon in question was currently sat - ungracefully - in front of his father's Throne, humming the National Anthem and trying not to fall asleep. The Sea God in question was looking upon his son in pride. For no Son of Poseidon had ever brought him the glory and pride, that Perseus Jackson had brought Poseidon.
The war with the Giants was over, and although Zeus would never admit it out loud, Poseidon and Percy were the reason that the war was over in the first place, for without Poseidon's Earth shaker powers, and Percy's remarkable ability to wield a sword, even when being thrown around, Gaea would never have gone down as easily as she did.
"Jason Grace… My son, step forward"
Zeus eyes flashed with electricity as he gazed upon his son, and with an almighty clap of thunder, the King of the Gods appearance changed, His hair grew longer, neater, now resting at the nape of his neck, and now the shade of a deep Blonde. But the biggest change was his gaze, for no longer was the King staring at the son of Jupiter with only just unwavering pride, no, now the gaze was coupled with affection, something which shocked both the Demigods and Gods alike, for the Thunder God never looked upon anything or anyone with affection save his Wife, the Queen of the Gods, Hera.
Jason, uncomfortable at the first sign of affection from his father, bowed and knelt before the God.
After a lengthy pause, in which the Jupiter's eyes flickered several times, as if an internal battle was raging within his mind, the God spoke, and when he spoke his tone was mature, deep and measured.
"Never before have I said this, and I very much doubt you will hear me say it again, but for this moment, and this moment only, none of you Heroes need bow to us. For on this night, without your help, this Throne Room… Us Gods… We would not be here to thank you. So for tonight only, no bowing, for in this moment. We are equals."
Silence. Silence so deep and profound that Percy's ears thought they might not be working anymore. Had that really happened? Had the King of Selfishness, of Paranoia, of Superiority, actually just told the Demigods that they had no reason to bow to them, granted it was for one night only, but still… Mind blowing stuff for Percy.
Uncomfortable with the silence, and the fact that every eye was now on him in a way that Jupiter/Zeus was not comfortable with, he continued with his speech.
"For your efforts in helping to defeat the Giants and helping to lull Gaea back to sleep, We, the Council are willing to make you a God. What say you my boy, will you accept? Will you fight by our side…? My side, for eternity?
'Again what is up with the affection from this guy?' Percy thought bemusedly
"I-I accept Father"
And with a mighty flash of golden light, three of the oldest, wrinkliest women Percy had ever seen appeared, holding some very large woollen socks, well, probably not socks but to Percy, they were socks.
As if they had rehearsed their lines for millennia, which, now that Percy thought of it, was most likely what they had done, the Fates spoke, in apathetic, almost bored voices that still managed to echo around the room.
"All hail Lord Jason Grace! Minor God of Lightning, Thunder and Battle Strategy" a collective gasp rang throughout the hall as the newest God to join the Ranks of Olympus blinked slowly and got used to the rush of power that flowed through him, sparks crackled along the Minor Gods fingertips as he inspected them, unaware of the applause ringing throughout the hall.
"Nice Job Jason, or should I Say, Lord Jason? Or how about Almighty Supreme Sparkplug?" Percy called out to his good friend as the applause died out, smiling warmly at his friend, so that the new God knew he was joking.
"You can call me whatever you want Perce, doesn't phase me one bit" we both laughed, and he then sat beneath his father's feet and relaxed, smiling at Piper, the newest Minor Love Goddess, with an easy smile and a wink.
Finally it was Percy's turn and he was excited, finally… finally he would be able to get up of the ground. To receive the award that he justly deserved.
"Perseus Jackson! Step forward if you please." Zeus Thundered (haha) as he flicked back to his Greek form, his voice carrying throughout the majestic hall. Both Immortal and Mortal eyes were drawn to the Son of Poseidon's figure, suddenly seeming smaller than the larger than life legend that surrounded him. Percy stood before Zeus, awaiting the God-Kings oncoming speech.
"Nephew, you have shown bravery and courage that has rarely been seen in the history of these halls, even more so than that of my children. I know that I have been harsh over the years, and I regret that, you have truly grown into a fine young man, and… I am… Proud to have you as my nephew. And as much as I hate to say this, you are the most powerful Demigod to grace this Earth and it was truly an honour to have fought by your side. We, the Council have decided to extend you the offer that you once refused, what say you Perseus? Will you join the Council? Will you fulfil your destiny and become the 13th Olympian?
Percy, although he had been expecting it, was still shocked, could he do it? Could he leave everything behind and become the newest Olympian?
'Well' he mused, 'I haven't got anything to lose, and I've got no more Mortal attachments.' He thought sadly. The death of his Sally and Paul still fresh in his mind. Gaea's backup plan, should she lose, destroy what the Son of Poseidon holds most dear. His family.
Percy glanced around at the assembled Immortals, all were smiling, happy to be safe, happy to potentially gain a new, phenomenally powerful God. All except one, a certain Wisdom Goddess was regarding Percy like he was an interesting puzzle, one that she could not figure out for the immortal life of her. As their eyes met, Athena's gaze deepened, seeing something that only she saw, and Percy meanwhile felt strange, a rising feeling in his stomach, whether it was trepidation or… Something else, he did not know. All he knew was that Athena was a very good looking Goddess, and for some strange reason he felt the need to protect, to hold, although… there was no reason for him to be feeling this way, was there?
"Ahem, Percy? Have you made up your mind? Or are you and Athena going to continue your very…Intense game of 'staring at each other'?"
Percy's head whirled to the one being that was able to influence the emotions of a being in this way. The Love Goddess in question smirked and winked, before letting out a little giggle and gesturing to the quickly angered King.
Percy paused for dramatic affect. His mind was made up, but he wanted to see how long he could push it before one of the Gods lost it and snapped, and he didn't have to wait long.
"Well Punk? What do you choose?!" cried out a frustrated Ares, the ever patient God of War.
"… Yes. I accept your offer My Lords and Ladies. It would be my honour, to be the 13th Olympian."
The Fates appeared again and walked straight up to Percy, stopping only when they were within breathing distance, when all of a sudden they placed their left index fingers upon his brow and chanted in unison.
"All Hail Lord Perseus Jackson, God of Heroes, Loyalty, Tides, and Battle. All Hail the 13th Olympian!"
"HAIL!"
A moment later a rumbling began and cracks began to form to the right of Dionysus' Throne, which awoke the sleeping Wine God and caused him to fall of his Throne to the amusement of everyone else. The Throne that rose out of the marble was a deep sea green, covered with wave designs and with crossed swords on the uppermost part of the backrest.
"Well then, now that is over and done with. I believe it is time to, as my sons would say, Par-Tay"
'Seriously what is with this guy today' thought Percy incredulously
"Hear hear!" chanted the crowd of Immortals, ready to Party and celebrate their victory.
Percy smiled and sat down in his Throne, not a second after doing this however Riptide appeared in Sword form on my lap and a large Trident appeared resting against the side of the Throne. Percy gazed at them in confusion until he heard his Father chuckle and tell him that they are his "Symbols of Power" before he stood up and pulled Percy to his feet.
"I am proud of you Son, and I am eternally happy I get to spend the rest of my Immortal life with my favourite Son." Poseidon said with a smile on his face before he pulled Percy into a hug that put Tyson to shame.
"Now I have to go sort out some issues in Atlantis, but I shall be back soon my Boy" Poseidon said before flashing out. Percy instinctively looked away before remembering that he no longer had to do that as he was no longer at risk of being burnt to a crisp by a Gods Immortal form.
After Poseidon had left, a whole host of Gods came to congratulate Percy, Hermes was first and claimed that no matter what Percy needed, Hermes would get it for him, and that whenever he wanted to go to Manhattan for some "Carnal Delicacies" he was only one call away.
Apollo strutted over and proclaimed that if Percy ever needed Archery lessons and/or tips on how to get any 'babe' on the planet, to give him a "buzz". Before Apollo was whisked away into the hustle and bustle of the party preparations.
Next was Aphrodite, who, with hips swaying and perfect hair flicked over her shoulder, lay her hand on Percy's shoulder and leaned down to whisper in his ear,
"If you are EVER, looking for a good time, I will be waiting, and in regards to your little 'moment' with Athena? Good luck."
And with that the Goddess of Love flashed away, leaving everyone within the vicinity with the scent of a flowery perfume. Totally unnecessary in Percy's opinion.
Ares just glowered at Percy for the way that his girlfriend was fawning over the Son of Poseidon and flashed away, to wherever angry Gods go. Before finally there was one last Olympian left to speak to Percy. The Goddess of Wisdom. Athena.
"Congratulations Sea Spawn, It will be interesting to see how you cope with being an Olympian." And with that Athena prowled off through the crowd, her aura parting those before her as if she had the plague.
Percy sat back down on his Throne and relaxed, taking it all in and sighed.
'Yeah. I could totally get used to this' thought the 13th Olympian.
