Alex walked up to their residence, she stopped at the bottom of the steps and looked up at the door. She wondered if anybody would be home by now and shifted the bag she was holding slightly to prevent the bottom from falling out. She had decided to run some errands on her own, got some food and picked up medicine for Nic.

"… home." Alex thought to herself, and smiled a bit before proceeding up the stairs. She opened the door and looked around, taking off her shoes by the entrance. When she figured the coast was clear she rounded the corner into the kitchen and was startled by none other than Nic who was sharpening his katana. He paused and looked up briefly, when he noticed who it was he silently went back to what he was doing. Alex smiled a bit and waved as she went into the kitchen and set the bag down on the same table Nic was at.

She turned and looked at the rest of the apartment; Worick wasn't around, and nobody else was visiting. Nic must have just returned from his duties earlier that day, otherwise he wouldn't have been home all by himself. Alex opened the large bag and took out the medicine for Nic, waving it in front of him until he noticed and motioned to leave it on the table.

"Ah… So have you been home long?" said Alex and she took out the rest of the supplies out of the bag. She looked up at Nic who, not to her surprise, wasn't paying any attention to her and had continued to sharpen his blade. Lately her efforts to speak with him have all been futile, that didn't stop her from at least trying everyday. Alex's gaze went from his face down to his large hands, the constant motion of the whetstone against the end of the blade, and his muscles working every which way. Eventually they stopped, causing Alex to look up again noticing Nic was staring right at her, startling her once more.

"What do you want?" Nic signed to her, waiting for a response. Alex watched his hands closely, trying to translate what he said into her head.

"I… um… just wanted to know how you were doing." Alex spoke slowly enough for Nic to read her lips, and held her breath waiting for a response, if she would ever get one. Nic's facial expression stayed the same for what seemed like forever, if anything it grew a bit more grim before he motioned "fine" and went back to sharpening his sword.

Alex finally exhaled, ending with a sigh and went back to loading the cupboards with her newly gotten goods.

"It was worth a shot,"
