Emily knew she messed up...big time. She also knew that the second Hotch asked her if she could go pick Jack up from his aunts that the second he arrived at his place she was going to hear how bad she messed up. What Emily wasn't expecting was how mad Hotch actually was at her.
Hotch quickly unlocked his door and threw his keys to the side. He set the alarm then walked to the couch to where Emily was currently sleeping peacefully. Sleeping? He thought to himself. Not on my watch. Hotch moved closer to the brunette and called her name lightly.
Emily stirred and opened her eyes slowly. Her soft sleepy brown eyes gazed into hard cold angry ones.
"Get up," he snarled.
Emily sat up quickly and put her shoes on. "Jack's asleep. He has been for about an hour now." She grabbed her coat and headed for the door. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Where do you think you're going?" Hotch asked dumbfounded. Did she actually think he was just going to let her leave?
"Home," Emily said without giving away how scared she actually was.
"You aren't leaving until we talk. Do you have any idea how stupid your actions were today? Do you have a death wish?"
Emily started to open her mouth to respond but was quickly cut off.
"Don't speak! I gave you a command out there Prentiss and that was for no one to move. Do you not consider yourself part of that equation?" he barked. "You went into that house with no backup, no vest, and apparently no brains! How could you be so reckless? Do you have that little respect for your own life?"
Emily stared at her boss as he yelled at her and all she wanted to do was punch him. He did reckless shit all the time and now he wanted to lecture her?
"This team already lost JJ, do you really believe that we would be able to survive if we lost you as well? And we still get to see JJ, but we'd only get to visit you while you're six feet in the ground." Hotch paused when he heard Emily gasp at his words. He knew he was pushing it, he didn't mean to upset her but she had scared him today and she needed to know that it was not okay. Hotch took a step closer before taking a deep breath trying to calm himself.
"I'm sorry. I just need you to see how important you are to this team. How important you are to me," he whispered. "I already lost someone I cared about deeply and I can't lose anyone else Prentiss. I won't allow it. So next time I give you an order I expect you to follow it. I don't care what the situation is. You are to obey me, am I making myself clear?"
When Emily didn't respond Hotch yelled, "What am I going to get the silent treatment now?"
Emily shook her head. "You told me not to speak sir."
Hotch let out a loud sigh. "You can speak Prentiss."
"You've made yourself crystal clear sir. It won't happen again, and I apologize that it happened this time."
Hotch nodded. "Good, glad we see eye to eye on this."
"Yes sir." Emily walked to the alarm and punched in the code before placing her hand on the door knob. "See you tomorrow Hotch," she said softly before looking in his eyes. There was something there that she couldn't quite read. It wasn't anger or concern for her well being. It was something else. She flashed him a small smile then walked out of his apartment wondering what the hell it was. Emily heard him say good night as the door clicked shut firmly behind her. She didn't know what was in his eyes but one thing Emily Prentiss was sure of was that she never planned on doing anything to piss him off ever again.,
