There was something about Rika Furude that Hanyuu always loved. Perhaps it was the way her beautiful, azure eyes sparkled. Or the way seductive way her sunskirt hung around her waist. Perhaps it was even her adorable baby face or even the way she would always exclaim an excited "ni-paa ~!" at any great moment of joy.

Yes, she had loved the young priestess the moment she laid eyes on her. Her heart fluttetred every moment that violet-haired beauty crossed her path.

Rika Furude had the charm that even the shrine god could not resist.

Which was why everyday became increasingly difficult for Hanyuu.

That was a problem. The problem had nothing to do with love, for she was not ashamed at all. The problem was called Satoko Honjuu.

Hanyuu should have known there was a special bond between the girls. The way they looked at each other was only filled with joy and longing. She thought they were only mere friends; but that trust and relationship soon began blossoming to a bit more.

Those gentle gestures and touches they would share, while they thought no one was looking; those blissful giggles and laughter as they chased each other across the field.

Hanyuu did not like that.

She muttered bitterly to her self; Just what was it that Rika saw in that girl?

Carefully, Hanyuu tiptoed down the hall, pressing her ear against Rika's door. They were both in there, just like every morning.

She listened intently.

"Satoko," she heard Rika's gentle voice whisper. "Thank you so much for staying with me, all this time. It's just been so hard...ever since the night my parents died. I don't know where I'd be without you."

"That's what friends are for, Rika." Came the reply. "Plus, you've done just as much for me. It really should be me thanking you. I'm so grateful you're with me as well."

Their voices loving and mirthful, as the two girls enjoyed the quiet comfort of each other's company.

And Hanyuu understood. There were things that Rika needed that only Satoko could provide; things that she would never be able to give to her dear, beloved priestess.

Rika was truly happy. Hanyuu could tell by the soft caresses of her smile.

No, she didn't like that she had lost to that human girl. Maybe, in a couple days, things would be different. But at that very moment, only Rika's happiness mattered to her.

OoOoO

Hello! I hope you've enjoyed this short drabble. It's my first Higurashi story as well as shoujo-ai story. Pretty good practice for me on the topic! And that was quite fun as well. There may be more of these from me in the future, so stay tuned! Thank you for reading!
