Of course I am...why wouldn't I be?

This is exactly what Toby thought when Pam asked if he was okay.

He obviously wasn't.

Sweat was dripping down his face and he was as pale as a ghost. Michael had casually mentioned downsizing to him the other day after he talked to Jan. Of course, being the one person Michael despises in the office, Toby's chance of continuing work at Dunder Mifflin in the next few months was slim. Maybe this is what I need, he thought, I could move to Costa Rica like I've always wanted to! Costa Rica had been a dream of Toby's ever since he was a little kid. His family had gone on a vacation there, and he had loved it. It was the one time his parent's didn't fight.

Of course, as soon as they got back, his mom filed for divorce. He had to pick between his parent's, and he chose his mom. He thought that maybe she'd take him to Costa Rica again, but they never went back.

This is how Toby was actually liking the idea of being let go, he knew tomorrow was the end of the quarter and Michael had to make a decision. He prayed that night that he would be let go so he could finally be out of this hell he called the office. Thinking about the way Michael could fire him made Toby grin. He knew that he was an obvious candidate for being fired.

That night he couldn't fall asleep, so he got out a notepad and began planning out what he wanted to do in Costa Rica. The more he wrote, the more his confidence grew, and the more he thought we would be out of there. He became so sure of it, he got a plane ticket for 6:00 pm the following night. Tomorrow will be the end of this beaten-down depressed version of me. I am Toby fricking Flenderson. He finally drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face.

The next day was Halloween. He didn't even bother with a costume. He just sat in the annex and waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, it was 4:30 and he was still in the annex waiting. He finally walked out to see Devon leaving angrily from Michael's office.

Toby had no words. He went back to his desk and made a phone call. "Hi I would like to cancel the flight I made for Costa Rica tonight...No something came up and I have to stay...I appreciate it thank you."

He went back home, immediately fell asleep, and stayed asleep for most of the weekend.

He woke up on Monday in the same clothes he had been in on Friday. He shaved, went to work, got beaten down at work, came home, and fell asleep. And for awhile that's all he did.

Until they got locked in the building one night. Something had been dwelling on Toby that made him want to quit. Well to be honest he always had, but he felt like he finally had the courage now. That's how he announced it in front of everyone after awkwardly putting his hand on his long-term crush, Pam. He hopped the gate and ran home.

A few months later, it was his last day. All the anger and depression that he had been feeling for what feels like forever turned into joy. He got in early only to see Michael looking even more excited than him. I know how you feel, Toby thought, I hoped I would feel that way for years. After one of the longest days of his life including a rock, a bouncy house, an unexpected proposal, and a nervous picture with Pam, he got home and immediately started packing.

His flight was that morning. He couldn't contain himself. That morning, he actually laughed, like a real laugh. It scared him at first. He got on the plane and sat next to a mom with her kid. "Is Costa Rica fun?" The kid asked his mom, "I bet it is sweetie, but I've never been either," the mom said. She turned to Toby, "Have you been before? Will my son have fun there?" Toby thought for a minute and answered, "He'll never want to leave."
