You trace one of the scars on my hand
A sharp intake of breath
I don't know from whom
Does it matter?
We are entwined
Connected
Crossed threads in the tapestry of life
Though we shrink away from touch
As though the children are still watching
As though we're not sure the other's real
We are always close
You threaten
You challenge
You accuse
You cling
You protect
You calm
You praise
You push away
You look at me with over-bright eyes
I speak to you in a choked voice
Emotions we fear to show to the world
Bared
Before each other
I can't believe how nothing
Everything
Something
Has changed
I know we'll be parted again
Someday
But until then I really don't care
Because for today
You and I
Are simply
Us
