Frankenstein's Monster by Eve-the-Charlotte
Pairings: Caliban/Callisto. Mentions Duncan/Evan.
Number nine in series. Also, this mentions an alternate universe version of the episode "Uprising." Enjoy.
He founded the Morlocks, though he didn't give them their name. It was the Eloi, the Topsiders, that made them the monsters, while they sat in their homes and indulged themselves until they were like fattened cattle, about to be led to the slaughter, though they had less awareness of that than actual cattle.
He lived in the sewers, that was correct, but he was not a monster, but neither was he human, like the Eloi. He didn't want to be human, not if it made him like them. He would rather live in squalor for the rest of eternity if he would not be like them. He was not one of them, and he never would be, not if he had anything to say about it.
Sure, there were the threats that came with living Underground, the lack of food, the greater risk of infection that came from the sewage around them. But they lived, no, thrived in their surroundings. They were the Morlocks, after all. He was the King of them, though, unofficial as it was, and his darling Callina, known down in the Underground as Callisto, Seer into the Darkness, was queen of them.
They lived with the other Morlocks happily together, yet, their peace was not to last. One of their own, Berzerker, decided to go Topside, to never be seen from again. Or, so they thought. He then came some time later with a large number of their kind with him. He claimed sanctuary in the Underground, for the Topside had rejected them once more. Being as naïve as they were, the Morlocks welcomed them, but they weren't there to stay. As soon as word on their group on Topside was found, they left immediately.
This did not bother most of the Morlocks, but it had disturbed the Queen, who began to wonder what was so special about these "X-Men" that made not only the others leave, but Ray, one of them, as well. She began to travel more than necessary to the Topside, hoping to find something, anything, that would give her answers. He indulged her wishes, allowing her more than the normal time and area coverage than the other Morlocks would be allowed to travel. He loved her. After all, she was his Queen.
She found someone, another man with overgrowing bones, which she brought to the Underground after he was poisoned. He feebly tried to persuade her, but she was firm on her decision. The boy would stay; she would make sure of it.
Many trials followed, yet the Morlocks endured. The worst was when the Topsiders attempted to murder them with electrical weapons. Half of the Morlocks were wiped out, but the Topsiders suffered worse, with only three Topsider males remaining. One managed to kill several of the surviving Morlocks before his termination. Another escaped, bringing back reinforcements, which had scarcely moved into battle before being slaughtered. The final one was the smartest, begging for forgiveness for what he had done. He made a good servant, though he did often seduce Spyke, the bone man, for more food.
Despite the trials, the Morlocks still thrived, even more so than the "X-Men", the Topsiders in disguise. His Queen would soon see that. In the mean time, he, Caliban, would still be King of the Morlocks, Callisto would be his Queen, and, together, they would survive. They were Morlocks, after all.
That was longer than I thought it would be. Anyways, review, please!
