Prologue

Light and Dark.

The light of a candle always goes out when you put your hand over it- when you leave it in the dark. But isn't that how everything is now? Light dims down in the darkness, people want to stay out at night and sleep in the day, and good is even starting to bow down to evil.

Peter Pan is darkness, there's no doubt about it. There's not even a glimmer of good inside of his darkened heart. If anybody got close enough to pull it out, it would be shriveled and black. That malicious boy kills many pirates, brings harm to mermaids, and tortures victims without a second thought to it. If there's anything Pan is lacking, it's a conscience.

On the other hand, Wendy Darling, is the exact opposite. She is dainty in every single way, even down to her wrists and ankles. She smiles at everything anybody says to her, and her laugh fills the room at the tiniest joke. Wendy Darling is a free spirit- a light. Nobody ever expected her spirit to break, ever. Not even London's Boarding School Prep for Girls bent her will. She took the sharp commands and snide remarks with pleasure and went on with her life without a second thought.

More recently, a dark figure started coming to her window late at night in her small boarding school room. It had already been watching over her for days when she first noticed it. Note, the shadow was not supposed to be here at all. If Pan knew that his shadow was watching a girl of all things, he'd probably go into another one of his famous rages. Wendy curiously walked over to the windowsill and pried her window open delicately. "Excuse me," she said politely, "but what are you?" The shadow couldn't help himself, and told him that he was, infact, a shadow of a "wonderful boy" or so he put it. It told her of the old Neverland, the one with fairies and mermaids all about. The only truth to his tale was that there were no grownups, and that you never grew old.

Mind you, the shadow didn't know that he was telling her about the old Neverland. The shadow had lived in skull rock the last hundreds of years, and hadn't really seen the "New Neverland" with the tyrant leader, Peter. Peter had really taken over the island; he had a throne made of leaves and a crown of thorns and branches upon him. He was in a sense, king.

Wendy was delighted when the shadow offered to take her to Neverland, so she could live there herself. Another thing, Peter had not allowed any girls on the island since his beloved Tiger Lily escaped. He had also not let anybody, except the shadow, off the island since.

The shadow took Wendy by the hand and pulled her out the window. She should've screamed, but she laughed the loudest she ever had. For once in her life, Wendy Darling was going on an adventure. And according to this black figure she'd been talking to for the last minute, they were on their way to a land with fairies and mermaids!

Oh poor Wendy, she should've turned back then. But why would she at that point? She didn't know that she would be plunged into darkness, and that her light would burn low, and who knows, maybe even burn out completely.

A/N: as you've probably noticed, I've taken a break from writing silhouettes. I just don't know where to take that story anymore, and I've basically lost interest in it. I hope you enjoy this story though; I'm excited to write a dark Darling Pan
